Now the strange thing is; I'm not nervous about the first impressions or any other personable trait. (This carries me a long way) I am however, getting quite a bit of anxiety through the lack of knowledge I may have.

You see, this is the first 2nd line support job I've been accepted for: with questions like: "what is Wins and how is DNS better" - I now DNS, but haven't a clue about what Wins is.

Basically I thought I sucked at the Interview as it was 80% technical test, 20% personal assessment questioning. (I scored less than 50% on the technical, mostly through going with common sense rather than proven knowledge).

I start this Job on 3rd Jan not knowing what they'll be expecting of me I believe I might be stretching myself too much in what I can do when asked.

Btw: I've fours 1st line exp, 6 months 2nd, and other IT qualifications

Update:

Starting tomorrow and I keep coming across a lot I don't know: Examples; I've never touched AD, Ghost Imaging, never created VPN's or hosted anything from home.

If they hired you then they were probably satisfied with your responses. I'm sure they didnt realistically expect an interviewee know the answers to all or even most of the questions. Often its how you try to answer the question is important rather than the exact answer. If I were you, I would start reading up.

You need some books and some serious study questions. People hate to work with incompetent people. Learn your ******.

^ Hence my worrying

I wont get involved with something I don't know, but a won't shy away from learning it. My way of learning is practical & hands-on rather than of studying books. Unfortunately I haven?t the resources at home to learn enough

I would say most technical employers would be looking for people who have a technical sense and can research rather than someone who can answer every question by the book. As said earlier, it's OK to not know everything. What's more important is how you engineer the answer to the question as well as being honest and humble. Employers do not want people who think they know everything because on the job when they don't know, guess and touch things, things can go mighty wrong.

Don't worry about it...You will be very surprised on how you fit in. I've been a network admin for 10 years now and only back when running NT did I ever mess around with Wins, I doubt that will ever come up..

Oh and I've yet to meet anyone in my line of work who knows it all, they don't exist...

Enjoy your new job.....

If I have learned anything in my career, it's that things and people really aren't as impressive as they seem at first. Whenever you get into a new field, company, area, etc, people will try to impress or intimidate you, but 95% of the time, it's just showing off.

I say just be confident, they wouldn't hire you if you didn't have the qualifications. Be humble and open to learning, but don't let anyone step on your toes either. (is that a valid expression in english?? I just translated litterally from my mother tongue...)

This makes a lot of sence as one of my answers was that I don't shy away from problems and when presented with a situation I retain ownership untill a resolve has been found.
