One problem with explaining precisely how he did everything is that it might prompt the hackers to devise more secretive ways of undertaking their activities.

na, hackers are always going for the next best technique anyways, nothing will motivate them anymore than they already are.

<< so what exactly is the problem with 2k and XP >>

Qouted from article:

<< "As a result, Internet security experts know that non-spoofing Internet attacks are almost certainly being generated by Windows-based PC's. Forging the IP address of an attacking machine (spoofing) is such a trivial thing to do under any of the various UNIX-like operating systems, and it is so effective in hiding the attacking machines, that no hacker would pass up the opportunity if it were available.

It is incredibly fortuitous for the Internet that the massive population of Windows-based machines has never enjoyed this complete "Unix Sockets" support which is so prone to abuse. But the very bad news is . . .

This has horribly changed for the worse with the release of Windows 2000 and the pending release of Windows XP. For no good reason whatsoever, Microsoft has equipped Windows 2000 and XP with the ability FOR ANY APPLICATION to generate incredibly malicious Internet traffic, including spoofed source IP's and SYN-flooding full scale Denial of Service (DoS) attacks! (See my WinXP & DoS Page.)

While I was conducting research into the hacker world following these DoS attacks, I encountered evidence ? in attack-tool source code ? that malicious hackers are already fully aware of the massive malicious power of the new versions of Windows and are waiting impatiently for the "home version" of Windows XP to arrive in the homes of millions of less clueful end users." [

It really is sad that these kids can't get outside and do something for a change. Seems like the parents would give enough of a sh1t about them to see to it that they don't sit in front of their computers for 16 hours a day.

Just my 2¢

actually after I finished reading it, I was disappointed.

this guy didn't even know IRC.. these stupid irc bot DDOS trojans are OLD news.. he thought these 13 year old dweebs actually wrote this? hell no, he just pissed off some script kiddies and blew this into a huge deal with the fbi, who promptly put him in his place because they didn't give a rats ass.

he has way too much time on his hands.

WTF do you mean Valhalla. He has "too much time on his hands?"

Open your eyes. The guys site is down due to DDos, and you say he has too much time because he is chasing down the cause.

Are you an Idiot or did I miss something from the poor English in your post?

/me apologizes if English is not your primary language.

Good article. Most people don't think DOS attacks are anything big, unless you're the one being attacked. Just imagine if you were a company that's losing valuable business due to your customers not being able to hit your website. I work for a smallish laptop service company and if our site isn't available at any time we hear about it ASAP. Even a half hour of downtime can mean a large loss of $$$.

It's a shame that the FBI or other law enforcement agencies don't or aren't allowed to allocate the resources needed to help curtail those sorts of activities. Sure they can't catch all the "script kiddies". But if others (like Steve) who collects all the evidence needed are being ignored then what's to stop some 13 year old from shutting a few sites down. :|

and blew this into a huge deal with the fbi
Are you nuts? :disgust: of course he made a big deal about it! ,didn't you read his article properly? his site was taken down multiple times!

who promptly put him in his place because they didn't give a rats ass
You obviously didn't read it properly! ,they did care but they couldn't do anything about it because he didn't meet the $ requirements of the law ,also they don't have enough resources.

he has way too much time on his hands.
Ah so internet security is just a waste of time! ,get real!:|
