9 month old thread revived by chuckywang for no apparent reason.
Moderator allisolm

I just rode my bike 15 miles to pick up my copy of MG34 for PS3. I reserved this game about 4 months ago and paid it off 2 weeks ago (traded in freakin GTA4 to pay the rest - but no, I am NOT poor....just on a budget). So I am super excited going into the store, just had a good bikeride in 95 degree weather.

I tell the chick I am here to pickup my "reserved" copy of MGS4 and I show her my receipt, drivers license, birth certificate, and last 3 months pay stubs just to pickup my game....FUCK, give me the game already.

So she goes around the counter and picks a box up off the shelf....where other games are sold (you know, where YOU can grab and take the counter). The whole time I watch this, I am like nah....she must be doing something else. She brings it behind the counter and starts digging in the shelves where they keep the "discs". She pulls out the game, puts it in the case and hands it to me, and says have a nice day.

I WAS LIKE ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

I start asking why the hell she gives me an opened game, when I paid and reserved for a brand new game, SEALED and all. She goes into this "Well, I promise it has never been played. We have to keep two opened boxes on the shelf, it's store policy". I asked again for my sealed copy of the game, and was pissed at this point. She said there were no more games left and that this copy was MY copy, but was one of two that "had" to be opened and put on the shelf.

I caused a huge scene...with about 20 people in the store. I started debating with myself on weather I should take it or get my money back. At first, I asked her to give me credit and HOLD a fucking sealed copy of the game the next time they get some in. She didnt know when that was going to be. I decieded to keep the game and left. Screamed "I will NEVER step foot in a GameStop again"......but I did...about 20 mins later. However, before I got on my bike, I opened the game back up and checked the disc....it was COVERED in finger prints.....but I wanted to play the game...so I left!

I was pissed....felt cheated....could this even be legal?

I took off on my bike and had one more stop to make. BlockBuster. I had to return a couple of blu-rays and wanted to get "Jumper". As soon as I entered the store I remembered that they sell games there. I asked and guess what, they had 5 copies SEALED ready to be sold. I asked the dude to hold it and explained to him my shit from GameStop. He thought it was shaddy and illegal too. I rode back and got my money back from GameStop....yelled and screamed some more....I think some younger kids were nervous....and I went back to BlockBuster. Bought the game there and just came back to rant.

Now, I am not one for the law but I think GameStop should pay for this. Can I do anything about this? Was it illegal? Should I picket and go in their store and tell every customer how much they rip people off?

FUCK GAMESTOP!

/RANT

Happened BEFORE?

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03...ell-open-games-as-new/

WTF!

*****ALSO*****

Let me just add this. Say you reserved this game and paid for in advance like I did. Now, say the copy you bought and expected to pickup brand new was intended to be a gift to someone. Would they not think you yourself to be shaddy and cheap for giving them a used game.....even though you swear to them "It's new and never been used".

Say I wanted to sell the game brand new to someone....you think they would pay full price for an opened game?

This is standard practice for Gamestop. It isn't illegal. Just do what I do and don't shop there anymore.

I don't really see the problem..They open the game...don't use it, and sell it to you as new, because it is unused?

If you didn't like it you could of not bought it.

They didn't damage the game, and you were just going to open it yourself right?

Dude-- its just a game.

I'm not saying that it isn't wrong what Gamestop did there, but what do you want the girl behind the counter to do? Certainly yelling once and scaring people-- leaving, coming back and yelling more isn't going to do anything to better the situation.

That aside just, yes it doesn't seem right at all to me though I don't know what policy on that is or what you signed up for and paid for and what not.

Hmmm I must shop at one of the few well managed gamestops. Anytime I ever reserve a game through them I always get a sealed copy.

Sonny boy, I think all that 95-degree heat cooked your brain on your bike ride over.

Any pics :camera: of the Gamestop clerk?

No....but she wasn't half bad and did see a little ass when she bent over to get the game.

Still.....I guess I could have asked for a BJ to make up for this....

It should be illegal...

to have grammar that atrocious. I'd be a little more worried about what your school system did to you than some video game store.

Win. I usually get the best used copies of games because I made friendly with the managers a few years back at my local EB. But I also rarely buy new games, so this makes things a lot different.

Yep, maybe you should become more aware, gamestop has been doing this for years.

In fact, I used to have a friend who worked at a best buy warehouse. He said most of the games there were opened and resealed just because of rough handling.

Seriously, this is like going to the gas station and yelling "$4.00 FOR Gas! I'M NEVER BUYING GAS HERE AGAIN!!!!" The point you were trying to make is invalid and way to late.

If only my life was so uncomplicated I could get mad enough to scream at a poor employee about how I wanted a sealed copy of a game that I was going to open in two minutes.

Want to trade lives?

when I first clicked on this thread I thought it was a NuclearNed rant. I was very disappointed.

Is this a bad parody or something?

That's some shady shit...fortunately, I've never purchased new games @ gamestop, only used copies.

My thoughts exactly. There are far more important things in life to worry about.

When you return an opened game to gamestop, they take it in the back, put it through the shrinkwrap machine, and sell it as new.

Also, there is a (secret) way to remove the game cd from the case without breaking that bar code seal.

I don't see how that is even remotely the same.

I purchased this game and PAID in advance! Why would I pay for an opened item in advanced?
