Very Quiet Modem Dialer

I can't figure out why my model dialer doesn't make a sound when it dials on this one system we built. Volume setting on the control panel, modem, is set to almost max. running on win2000. any ideas?

Well to me the sound a modem makes is almost as annoying as how slow they are, why do you want to hear it?

i agree. not me, necessarily. the person who we built this system for may wanna hear it. doesn't it sound like the sound of success when it works?

I rip that little black thingy off every modem,on every computer that I build and I have never had a problem

Double click Modems in the control panel and goto the properties for the modem and ensure that the speaker is on there. Sometimes modems can be very quiet anyway (particularl cheaper HSP ones) so open the case and shove an ear in.

It could be that the speaker is damaged on the modem, ya never know.

That's nice.....but....how does that help this guy get his working, I have a feeling that it may just cause it to definately not work

Do you know where to put an "Init" string in the modem's advanced settings? I would try typing in this (Without the quotes): "AT&F1M1"

That should force the speaker on...
