Very Random Computer Restarts

Hey guys,

I've been getting a lot of random restarts lately. I don't overclock. I'll be using my computer, whether it be browsing the internet or whatever, and then all of the sudden, my computer will just restart. So finally I got so sick and tired of these random restarts that I decided to come to you guys for some help. I made it so it showed a blue screen on system failure and this is what I got:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical information:

Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.?

I was running my 2 sticks of 512mb Corsair modules, but one of them died so I am currently only running 1 at the moment. I did testing on both and the one that died has a lot of errors, but the one that didn't doesn't have any (at least to my testing knowledge.) I will be sending both of the modules back tomorrow, so we'll see if these random restarts stop happening after I get my new set, but until then are there any ideas on what's causing this? Bad drivers was one thing that came to my mind, but I don't know. What does this error message mean? I'm sure you guys know much more than I do about this stuff.

Thanks in advance.

I would guess that one of the devices in your system is having an IRQ conflict.

Check the System logs in your event viewer, that might give you a clue. If not, go into Device Manager and check each device to make sure there are no conflicts.

The IRQL bit is usually bad drivers. Send me the url to this post, a zipfile with the contents of c:\windows\minidumps directory, and the cabfile output from mpsreports (see my .sig for the info and the e-mail) and I'll take a look.

Could also be a memory problem, however the only way to be sure is to analyze the dump-file ... I suggest the OP send a copy of it to dclive as he requested.

Cause
This bug check is issued if paged memory (or invalid memory) is accessed when the IRQL is too high.

The error that generates this bug check usually occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS.

If you encounter bug check 0xA while upgrading to a later version of Windows, this error might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version.

Guys,

The cause I posted is from the Microsoft kernel debugger. That's why it's bsod'ing.

But the OP could address this by simply providing the dumpfile...
