Dang... this would have been a hot deal!

Here's the link to Outpost. Price was $590 - $90 rebate + Free shipping! But the rebate was only valid from July 3-July 16 (the rebate linked from the site, anyway)

But if you are around B&M - might still be a nice hot deal!!

<--- Waits for people to start bitching about it being a Gem LCD

I, myself, may go check it out later though...tired of burning my poor eyes! It's either LCD screen for me or less computer time. I think the choice is obvious

The only thing I would "bitch" about is floating $140 in rebates. IMHO, that's excessive.

if its generic, then u better save money for new glasses. i've had dirt cheap crt monitor from fry's and it hurt my eyes so much, i gave it to my sister. also when goto where all the tv's are on display, u can see a huge difference in screen quailty from a "suny" brand flatscreen and the toshiba next to it... also my friend bought a haeir tv from fry's and it died after 8 months [never buy generics from fry's]

No doubt! I'm very anti-rebate. Rebates will never be a deal-maker for me. That's why I never go to Circuit (Rebate) City. Almost everything in their ads has a damn rebate! :|

IMHO = in my honest opinion
ROFL = rolling on the flooring laughing
B&M = Brick & Morter, the actual storefront

Stores adjust the contrast on the display models to make them look better... What they do is raise the contrast on the more expensive models so they look better. Most of the tv's in these stores are also 'chained' together with a feed coming from one source... the tv's farther down the 'chain' don't look as sharp.

This must not apply to monitors. Every time I go to Fry's the smaller, cheaper monitors look decent even in their incredibly harsh lighting and the NEC FE1250+ always looks like ass...even when I'm practically the first person in the store.

kermalou, you should say "Fry's sucks" or "Fry's is a sucker". "Fry's is suck" is not right.
Please provide good reasons, otherwise this is pure thread/deal crapping.

Fry's rules.
- They had MS wheel mouse optical for $13 (with $10 rebate) last month. (msrp is $25, Fry's normal price is $20)
- $0.99 BTC ps/2 with sleep button keyboard recently.
- Generic cables for half the price of generic cable (just with a brand name something like Belkin) from Compusa, Bestbuy, Staples, etc. They're a good place to shop for computer accessories locally you need it right the way.
- While Compusa, Bestbuy, Staples, etc sell everything at msrp most of the time, Fry's sell everything at few bucks lower than msrp. (like the ms mouse)
- They're a good showroom for you to see some cases, motherboards, monitors and then order from newegg. (newegg also has this 17" LCD - $541 shipped)
- Good source to buy and try and then full refund.

Actually.... "(something) is suck" is not uncommon phrase in Anandtech... no matter how gramatically incorrect. Most likely the person who post such a phrase is doing it intentionally. Please search for "is suck" in the archives if you would like to see other threads with such a key phrase.

As for thread crapping, I think he is allowed to his opinion in this matter... Fry's has been known to suck... so it is a fair warning for those reading the thread. But I do agree that a somewhat more lengthy explaination will make it less of a thread crap.

I actually went and bought this LCD yesterday, and promptly returned it today. Reason being text was very blurry at 1024x768 and when I bumped it up to its native resolution of 1280x1024 it was so fuzzy I thought i was looking at Robin Williams' back. It may have been just that monitor or just GEM in general, but the price was too good to resist. Too bad it didn't work out.

Also, (something) is suck is deliberate, as is (something) is teh[sic] suck. May or may not come from somethingawful, depending on whether the writer can type.

bleuiko: but you can say that about any store practically. And no one complains about Staples deals anymore, and that's where it originally came from (I believe).

That is suck!

Hopefully it was just the one you got. I didn't even know that it was possible to have a blurry LCD. Maybe something in the D/A conversion? It still doesn't stop me from being curious. Maybe it's time for me to have a clearance sale on all these spare parts lying around.
