You could use SiSoft SANDRA or Winbench 99. Again, thanks for taking your time to test your drive.

Wow, that's terrible. 11 MB/s average and 15MB/s peak. Well, now I know not to get that enclosure.

But anyway, the weird thing is that the Oxford 911 is capable of 35MB/s with other enclosures. But shouldn't any enclosure with the Oxford 911 perform the same? I mean, the Oxford 911 is the Oxford 911 no matter what type of plastic or metallic box the company is using. That's why I never understood how some more expensive Oxford-based enclosures can really get 35MB/s.

Thanks a lot for the test results. It has helped me a great deal.

Well...golly....just buy a dual firewire/usb2 case and the issue is quite easily settled!!!! You'll be ready for anything!!! One example.

That is a dual enclosure in the test!!!

Um no. USB2 is slower than firewire. And if forcesho's firewire case with the Oxford 911 can only do 11MB/s, then why consider USB2? What issue is settled eh?

Yeah, Compgeeks has plenty of external boxes with Oxford/Cypress chipsets. Be sure to get the latest drivers from the chipset mfr's web site. They have a really neat one on their home page today from X's. It uses a 2.5"drive and has a built in memory card reader so you can dump your cards onto it to free them up for more pix when you're out in the field. Pretty slick!

Golly gee fellas.... Here where I work there are 40+ desktop systems...around half have USB2 and the others have USB 1.1. There are 14 laptops....6 have firewire. So, golly, for someone such as myself...speed is not really the issue. Compatibility is as important. So, well...shucks..it would seem to me that the ability to connect dictates a solution that is not so narrow..the choice between Firewire and USB2...but rather a case which has the ability to do firewire and/or USB2.

Also...well geez, if USB2 is slower than firewire, well then that would mean that firewire is faster than USB2!!! (I figured that gem out on my own...with no adult supervision whatsover!!!)

Now what is the debate here anyhow? I was simply pointing out that a different solution was available if you chose to spend the additional money on a case that had both standards!

$80 seems like a really good price for this enclosure that Zepper was talking about. It'd be perfect when I pick up my Canon D60 (or the next best one that I am hoping they announce at PMA.)

Anyone know of any place cheaper? I'm specifically looking for one that has the ability to read a Compact Flash card.

Wow, those are the best looking external cases I've ever seen. I was hoping to but a DVD Burner in one but it looks like they are definately for hard drives only.

Firewire has a bright future since they just came out with Firewire 800, twice of the original speed. However, I only noticed it on the new G4s only..

And the prices blow. This is the HOT DEALS forum; the site you list charges almost twice as much for items analogous to those listed in this thread.

and you get what you pay for

those overly discounted enclosures are cheap for a reason, and than try and get support for them
