VERY slow Frame Rates in SOF 2, is this normal?

I just installed a PNY GF4 ti4200 after runninng a Radeon 8500 for a bit. SOF 2 was fine with FR witht he Radeon, but with the GF4 its very choppy. I'm averaging 30 FPS! I'm using the latest Det 29.42. Any ideas??

Not really. I have a relatively similar setup (AMD 1600+/Ti4200) and I've gotten good performance on SOF2. Check and see if you have Anti-Aliasing turned on in the game (Advanced Video options), and if so, what level.

Make sure V-Sync is off as well, that could definitely hurt your performance.

Even if v-sync was on he should still be getting fps approaching his monitor refresh rate, which has to be a lot higher than 30 fps. I would turn off v-sync just of the heck of it, but that shouldn't be bringing him down that much.

did you uninstall your old drivers before popping in the new card?

is anisotropic filtering on? (I think the game may default to max aniso, which is a completely different story between Radeons and GF4's) ...also, what resolution? highres combined with ^^ could be it ?

that said, it works nice in 1024x768 (save a few areas...) on my Ti4400 with everything (aniso included) cranked, not sure how big a diff that is from 4200, I imagine it isn't the difference between 30 and 60fps or anything.

edit: to see FPS in SoF, hold shift and hit ~ ...then type in cg_drawFPS 1 and hit enter.

also, if that board is a Via one, try reinstalling the 4in1's maybe? doubt that's it, but...

Are you sure you completely removed all elements of the ATI drivers?

Using Add/remove to remove ATI drivers will leave you with 4 or 5 files (C:/Windows and C:/Windows/System directories) and about 5 registry entries.

Search for ati files using search-string ati*.* and delete them. Use RegEdit to find and remove the ATI registry entries.

I got 40-60 fps in SOF 2 1024x768x32bits max settings with 1Ghz Morgan and GF2 GTS card. Your fps should be way better, check the AA settings..

Thanks for the suggestions guys. YES, I am sure all the ATI drivers are gone b/c I reformmated after installing the GF4. I always do a clean install of windows when I change hardware. Anyway, I played around with alot of stuff and it seems that the cause of the low FPS was the SOUND. When I tried using EAX it was very slow. WHen I turned off EAX it ran fine. Wierd, seeing how I have an Audigy Sound card that supports EAX.
