Very Slow Upload Speed on Wireless Router

I recently connected an old Netgear MR814v2 wireless router to my 3.0mbps dsl connection. I access the net on my PC with a Airlink AWLH4130 PCI Wireless Card and also on my laptop. I have also setup my wireless router to use std WEP encryption.. On the config, I get excellent download speed over 3mpbs , but really sloww upload 4 to 8kbps.. (Please see attached image). Results are the same, whether i use my laptop or desktop. All works fine with either device plugged in directly to dsl..
I have tried to troubleshoot this over two days with multiple settings, and now am very frustrated. The wireless signal ranges from "Verg Good" to "Excellent" 80 to 85%.. but the uploads suck..please help....

1) Is there any reason to believe your UL speed should be higher (faster)? I agree that 8 KBps seems low, but maybe your ISP capped it at that.

2) Are you using any filesharing software on either the desktop or the laptop? It would certainly soak up your available upstream without affecting the downstream if you have eDonkey or uTorrent running at full speed on either PC.

3) Have you scanned for viruses on both PCs? One or both might have a trojan through which a hacker is using your PC maliciously.

The upload speed is > 1.5mbps when connected directly. Hence, I am pretty certain its a wireless issue. I have no torrents (have no idea what's edonkey). Thanks for your reply.

I'd try these 4 things in the following order.

1) virus scan
2) reset the router with the tiny button on the router
3) upgrade the firmware on the router
4) contact the manufacturer
