1) Is it legal to be naked on your property if you are visible to the public? (Ie, balcony of an apt, or front lawn of a house near a road)


2) If #1 is illegal, is it legal to stand naked in front of your window if that window is in public view? (Ie front window of a house, or in front of the sliding glass doors on your balcony in an apt complex)

Wanna hear something funny?

Our new house has very large, wide windows, facing a long line of tall townhouses across the street.
We've had a lot of trouble trying to get curtains to fit these windows, and we partly feel like it's a shame to cover them up.

We've been living here for about 3 months now, and have only just discovered that at night, our curtains aren't thick enough and the lights make them almost completely see-through.

It depends ENTIRELY on where you're at. In Santa Cruz, CA you can walk down Pacific Avenue (popular outdoor mall kinda street) completely naked and the cops can't do anything unless you make any kind of lewd action (i.e., masturbating in public).

You can't sit on the sidewalk though, that's loitering.

In most locations those would both be illegal. Here is my favorite extreme case (taken from my high school law class so I don't have links):

A couple was making love in their bedroom. All bedroom windows were completely covered. Some people climbed up that couple's 6 foot fence, looked around curtains that weren't fully closed into a window in their living room, then saw the reflection of that couple in the bedroom in one of the living room mirrors. That couple was arrested for indecent exposure and lost their court battles.

I know I have seen news reports of people who have done some of these things (mow the lawn in the nude, walk down the street in the nude, etc) and have not been arrested or ticketed. I don't know what state they were in though.

I know back in Erie near where I grew up, the court ruled that it was only legal to dance down the street naked, not walk. (because dancing naked is a form of expression, and the only reason gentleman clubs were allowed or some such bs)

But I was just wondering in general.
