Well, I have this one box here, lets go over the specs first.

The board is an abit kr7a-raid, 512 corsair PC3200, 30 gig primary, slowly moving over my drives....

Anyways, I am having a hard time to get the network to work properly. No matter what network card, or settings on the card, it goes SOOOOO slow.

The speed does not stay consistant, no matter on what card is in that computer, or what card is in this one. I used both my onboard and my 3com in this box, both work, I copied stuff from here to my laptop.

My other desktop, no good, I tried linksys, 3com, netgear, nothing, not good. I tried new cables nothing, no good. I have tried differant ports on my switch, nothing, no good. The switch is a 3com SS2 3k, all ports are configured to 100FD.

It took it about 6-7 hours to copy over 10 gigs, this is very very bad, it should be ale to do more like 100 gigs in a lot less time then that...

I am thinking that it may be the motherboard, are there any good programs out there I can try to test the board for errors? The board got the lastest bios version last night...

If you have a crossover cable, you might try a direct card-to-card link and not use the switch at all. Are both systems at stock clockspeed (ie, PCI bus is at proper speed)?

Also, perhaps you have one or both of the NICs in PCI slots that share their IRQs with something else that's active at the same time (RAID controller for instance). Looking at the KR7A-RAID's manual, it looks like PCI slot #5 (second from bottom) is the "sweet slot," although they don't seem to elaborate on what IRQ the onboard RAID controller uses. Still, avoid PCI 1 & 2 (they share with the AGP) and PCI 4 & 6 (shares with USB) and see what happens

Of course, you could simply remove the hard drive from the old rig, put it in the new one, and copy your data to the new system that way too. If nothing else works, there's always that.

I will try a direct cable connection later, there is no reason it should not work, I have a very good switch.

The nic is in the sweet spot already, onboard raid and usb 2/3/4 is disabled, along with paralell and serial, it is suppose to be a file server.

I am copying the files over the network to 'stress test' it to make it it will go and can handle a transfer.

My other thought is that perhaps there's just a ton of packet collision going on due to a problem with the network settings. You might try doing a full reset of your switch so it forgets its MAC address tables and starts over too.

Did it...I will try to log into my switch now and see what is going on, I am currently transfering 10 gigs to test it, should have been done long ago.

Yeah I second mechBgon comment

Also Try

1)Putting the AutoSense Feature off , and Manually configuring the speed on the switch as well as on the computer . The Speeds Configured MUST match on both sides for the connexion to work

2)Before , you plug a crossover in , make sure you don't have any DDOS based Virusses on your system . Make Sure , the system you connect the crossover has the applicable MS Patches / Virus Patterns installed as well , just to be safe.

5)Reload NIC Software / [Though It sounds You've done this Step]

6)Replace / Swap Out Network Card [Though It sounds You've done this Step]

7)Replace / Swap out switch [Just to make sure ]

From my experience with Cisco Devices , CRC Align Errors Happen When the LSP Process fails for Link Auto-detection.You couldn't maybe get a protocol analyzer and capture some traffic for us could you ?

Good Luck , and tell us how it goes

I have all sides set to 100FD, always have.

I am going to change my oil, and then mess with it afterwards, most likly reset the switch and try newer drivers, my cat5/crimpers/ends are not here, I borrowed them out:/

just a weird thought here.......have you tried to bridge your connections? i'm using 10/100 cards and getting 400mb/second thru a mac bridge. Without the bridge I get 10mb/sec. Also, have you checked that the BIOS is set right?
Without being there and seeing your settings and properties, it's hard to get a picture of the actual problem.

I only got one card hooked up as of right not, I assure you everything is set properly.

I will see if there is anything in the bios.

Well, I can not figure this problem out.

I can go form the desktop to my laptop very fast, transfering 6.5 gigs takes about 15 minutes. To transfer files from here to my file server, or another desktop on the same cable, diff nics takes about 200 minutes.

I am going to try a differant cable yet again and see....I have gone between 3 diff nic cards I can't belive they woudl all be dead..

Get a new motherboard. My KR7A-Raid sucked horrible. Nothing but problems from Day 1. Went to Giga byte, not a problem since.
