I'd assume he works for em since he could get you a $25 gift card to cingular. Where's the hot deals for those already on cingular? The really hot deal for us already cingular customers would be no cancellation fee just like verizon (i think it was?) just had. I want to get out of cingular as fast as I can... as soon as they merged w/ ATT my signal started sucking, I have had no end of troubles with payments (as in my bill would arrive 2 days after it was due), and customer service blows big ones.

The BUY.com deal is very bad. It requires you to wait 6 months to even SUBMIT the rebate. That 200 dollar rebate really becomes like... 180 after that long.

Umm I don't work for Cingular, people. Those are not referral links. Don't use the direct link I provided if you don't believe me. I just compiled a list of deals so that I can give back what Anandtech Forums has given to me.

Don't be dissin my post like that =) Those are great deals up there., especially considering I can get you the gift card... Cingular rules. Peace.

Keep in mind people that the new Razr 2 and Razr Vx3 (or whatever it is) is coming out later this year. There is a reason the silver and new black Razr phones are getting cheaper by the week.

Cingular serivice in my area is crap. I live near Bellevue, WA in the Seattle area. I experience dropped calls, and disconnects CONSTANTLY. I even replaced my phone cause I thought that was the problem but it didnt fix the problem. Overall I rate Cingular service in my are a D+ (they didnt have a problem replacing my phone in a timely manner).

I like the rollover and the cost of the program, but when I was with Sprint, I had excellent service. I would suggest Sprint over AT&T/Cingular any day of the week. Cingular can take their "four bars" and shove them up their A$$.

My contract with Cingular is up... going month to month now. I wish I could get a good deal on a phone. Only been with them 9 years now. You'd think when I call in, they'd want to make it easy on me.

But no... not willing to do anything more than what is on the webpage.

idiots!

The easy way to get a deal from Cingular is immediately say you want to cancel your service when you call. The retentions dept is the only one that can offer better deals than what you would normally get.

My contract wasn't up until September, but I went by the Cingular store in May to ask when I could upgrade our phones. They said I wasn't eligible for 2 more weeks, since you can upgrade your phones after 21 months into a plan. After leaving the store, I went home and called retentions. They offered me a V220 for free for my wife and a V551 for $49.95 for me. For some reason, Cingular won't let their store employees or regular phone reps offer good deals to current customers.

Cingular plans blow. $40 for 400 minutes with rollover and 5000 night/weekend. With T-mobile I get 1000 anytime and unlimited night/weekend for $40. That is 2.5 times as many peak minutes. Who needs rollover with that? There are sites with free RAZRs and bluetooth headsets for T-mobile as well.

I work in the cell phone industry, and like an above poster said, the #1 way to get a good deal is to immediately say you want to disconnect your service. Agents in the deactivations departments usually get bonuses for every customer they "save" - and they usually have to hit a certain % of customers saved out of their total calls each month to even be elligible for said bonus (or for some companies, to even get paid).

Because of that % they have to hit, when you call in, you need to sound in a hurry, but not angry - if they think the call will take forever and go nowhere, they'll likely just agree to disconnect you, just to get you off the phone; let's face it, if your call sounds like it will take an hour, they would probably rather just disconnect you, and take 3-4 more calls in the time they may have spent with you.

So call in, say you want to disconnect. When they ask why (and they will) say that another company (do your research - find another company with a deal you like through their retail outlets - not through an obscure website) can give you ____. They will likely try to give you a comparable offer. Hesitate, and say you're not sure. Do not agree to think about it then call in later, insist you want to get it taken care of today. Ask if there's anything else they can give you.

If you play your cards right, and you get somebody who cares about their job even slightly, you can usually get a free low to mid-end phone, free shipping on said phone, and then a free cheap accessory (car charger, headset, leather case).

Don't get mad at the agent, they'll be a lot less likely to help you. Don't keep saying "well this company can give me this, and that company can give me that" - you'll sound like you already made up your mind and are just fishing for a deal.

Most of these departments are able to give the same deals that their website offers new customers, and then have a little bit of credit money on top of that (usually for free shipping on the phone, accessories, or a free month of service). Not all do though, so YMMV. I've worked directly with 2 companies (a major, nation-wide on, and a semi-major local one serving only 14 western/central states), and indirectly with a third (a semi-major national one).

//sorry to thread crap
