Very Very Slow Tire Leak

Hi All,

One of my tires loses around 2 psi every week. I put it back-up to 35 psi at the end of every week and so far so good.

If I take it to a tire shop, will they be able to find such a small leak and be able to repair it?

Is it safe for me to continue riding on it and refilling it every week?

Not a pain in the ass at the moment but I'm thinking when winter comes, it will be.

Thanks for reading.

You should be able to find the leak yourself with 20 minutes and a garden hose.
Once you find the leak where it is at should be the determining factor of if the tire can be repaired or not.
And don't forget to check the valve stem!

Take the tire off the car and put it in a tub of water while it's completely inflated (high PSI). The rest is pretty self explanatory. But it is probably easier to take it somewhere to get it fixed. Most places won?t charge more then 20 to repair a flat. They use a special device to repair flats that is essentially a gun that shoots a mushroom plug on the inside of the tire. Much better then those rope patches you get at wal-mart.

If the leak is that slow, it's probably an issue with the bead and not an actual hole in the tire. Take the tire off the car and spray a soap-water solution around where the tire meets the rim (soap in the water makes the bubbles stay longer and makes them easier to see) on both sides (front and back). It's quicker and easier than submerging the tire in a tub of water.

Honestly, 2 PSI in a week isn't much. Just keep an eye on it and you can run with it indefinitely.

Visually inspect the tire. With only 2lbs loss a week its going to be a hard one to find using nearly any of the usual methods. Sometimes you will have a nail or screw in the tire which is almost self sealing and allows only a slow leak.

I had the same problem - the tires didnt seal properly at the bead. If you don't find anything by submerging, then bring it to a tire shop and have them pull off the tire, clean off the edges of the wheel, and reseal it.
