I found Logitech's Momo force feedback wheel and pedals at emscomputing.com for $160.00 with free shipping. The MSRP is $199.00 and the shipping weight is 18 lbs. (i.e., shipping charges are significant at other sites). The wheel received very good (to great) reviews (except from 1 or 2 seemingly uninformed reviewers) from more or less trustworthy sites.

I order a set and will post my opinion after I test drive the set-up.

Later,

Bud

ummm....unless you provide a link, better move it to brag-n-moan, lol! I'm personally holding out for this FF wheel pedal setup:ACT-Labs Force RS $139.99 + shipping, they say this is the best on the market. I hear the pedals are a little flimsy so I'm hoping they will soon include the upgraded clutch system clutch performance pedals $59.99.

Gecko97...what's the easiest/standard method to include a "link" in a post?

Thanks,

Very good price.

EDIT:
For some reason it won't link properly, so you have to copy/paste this url:

The Act-Labs wheel is nice since it got multi-platform support. Too bad it does not do focrce-feeback on the console system. anyone know how much these separate engines cost?

I thought you were kidding. The URL encodes the price within it. Silly programmers - here's a crazy deal:

Silly Linky

Don't get excited - you can't name your own price - the order page looks up the correct price. It would be fraud anyway.

Having owned a MS-Sidewider FF wheel, and both of the last two models of FF racing wheels from Logitech, i can only assume this one meets or exceeds the performance of the last logitech wheels...which are very good. Especially the older Wingman Formula Force wheel (my personal favorite) which the new Momo wheel closely resembles. I'd love to pick one of these up...cause that is a good price!

If your shopping for a FF wheel and your budget is in this nieghborhood, you can't go wrong.

Nice find!

BTW, the guys i know that use the Act Labs Force RS wheel swear by them...i've only heard good things about that wheel!

of course, if you really want a Top-of-the-line wheel, and price is no object...you'll look here: http://www.thomas-superwheel.com/

I just got this wheel from Buy.com at Christmas. They had it for $158 with a free shipping coupon. Last time I checked though it was on back order, so YMMV. I'm also going to be sending in a 10% Logitech MIR to make the deal even sweeter. You had to have purchased it by New Years though to qualify for the rebate. Damn.. Reminds me.. I need to have that thing post marked by 1-31-02.

Anyway.. The wheel is fantastic! When I first hooked it up, I played it for about 8 hours straight. It really feels like you're driving a car. What's so amazing about it is that it's designed and made by Momo (the wheel and pedals that is). I have a real Momo wheel on one of my cars and this thing is just like it. It's even leather wrapped. The pedals are great! They are aluminum with a great base and dead pedal that doesn't slip. It has really nice F1 style paddle shifters that are made out of metal. The force feedback is great! It literally feels like are driving a car. I didnt' know that force feedback could be so good..

Minor quibbles.. I'd love to see a clutch pedal and I'd like to have the option of a regular standard shifter. Not a front to back shifter, but an actual gated shifter with a shift pattern. The Momo just feels like it's missing something when you're driving a NASCAR with paddle shifters. Other that that, this thing is incredible! Highly recommended!

As for the ACT wheel. It may be nice, but what turned me off was the looks of the wheel itself. They really need to get with some designers and make it a little more realistic looking. Not that I'm just in it for the looks, but I'm also in it for the feel and the ACT just doesn't look like it feels all that authentic. I could very well be wrong here. Aside from that, I can't really comment on it because I've only seen photos of it.

I can honestly say that I have tried that Act-Labs since a friend of mind has one and it is totally worth th money and is one of the only resoanably priced wheels that has a clutch system and 6-speed shifter! The additional add-on cards cost $19.99 each and when you buy the wheel, it comes with one of your choice (yes you even need to buy the pc one separately, unless you choose that oen of course). Currently I believe they sell adapter cards for the 64, ps, and dc, but are currently making a compatible one for the ps2. No word yet on xbox or gc.

After some research on a new ff wheel, I ended up deciding between the Logitech Momo and ForceRS/shifter/performance pedals combo. I was a big fan of that old classic Interstate '76 driving game so I did find the retro look of the Act-Labs setup quite appealing I liked the nice leather wrap on the Momo wheel too, but I thought the shape of the wheel was odd looking, I wished they went with a fully round wheel instead. I went with the Act-Labs, but heard their performance pedals and shifter can also be used as an addon with other wheels provided your game supports multiple controllers.

I drive the Act Labs Force RS with the 7 speed shifter (6 speed + reverse) and the new pedal system. Even without the addition of the clutch, the new pedal system is flat out AWESOME....The throw in the pedals is huge and precise...the tension in the brakes is acurate...Once you drop the clutch in N4 and peel out of your pits, there is no going back to gas and go...the shifter is a blast, especially for rally games like RC2000--The wheel is super--it will tear up your forearms until you get used to it...and best of all, unlike Logitech, Act-Labs has great support...Of course, this set up is pricier than the momo, but they do offer package deals now that will save you some money...I played around with the logi at a best buy...I like the feel of the wheel, but the pedals are trash. I spent a little less then 300 on my setup, and I'd do it again in a heart beat...my only complaint is the size of the unit. It is about a foot deep when it clamps onto your desk--however, it is well worth the trouble. The regular pedals on the force rs are downright bad, however. So, it's a toss up between logitech and act-lbas unless you want the shifter or the pedals too, then AL takes the cake...even without the new pedals, I think I'd lean towards the AL.

People have posted this about EMS in the past, but beware. They have been known to take VERY LONG times to ship products, and in some cases fail to ship at all. I had an experience like that when ordering my SX1040B from them. I finally gave up and ordered from somewhere else. They have a 4.2/7.0 on ResellerRatings, with some not-so-good comments.

Well.. The Momo wheel having the flat bottom is very similar to racing wheels and I don't see a problem with it considering that I never use that portion of the wheel anyway.

I have been taking a closer look at the ACT Labs wheel and I'm very impressed with all the options you can get. It is still expensive though for the good stuff and I may jump on that at some time down the road. I guess I certainly wouldn't have paid full retail for the Momo, but considering that I got it for under $160 shipped plus less with the MIR, I'm pretty happy with it. I can always use it later as my "backup" wheel.

BTW.. The ACT performance pedals must be nice because I certainly don't think the Momo pedals are trash. They wipe the floor with anything that I've tried from any of the local stores (ACT Labs excluded).

Also, why exactly do you need a force wheel to rip your arms off? I've done some amateur racing and though it can be tiring at times, but it certainly doesn't rip your arm off.

Edit: Logitech's customer support does bite the big one. I'm still trying to get a hold of them about a sticky volume knob on the Z560's. Two emails and nothing. I'm not looking forward to waiting on hold for an hour for a toll call either.

I ordered the momo from emscomputing on 1-8-02 and received it on 1-14-02 with free shipping. So far I really like the momo, but I'm still working with the software and various games. It seems like the wheel "dosen't like" to be "centered" most of the time (i.e., in the calibrate menus the wheel is generally off-center) and I'm still working on the issue.

Anyone else have/had this wheel with this problem, and a possible solution? Hopfully it's "user" error and I'll solve the issue.

Thanks,

Budarow

Provantage has this for $149.74

Nice thing for me is that they ship out of local distibution warehouses. If I place an order in the morning I have it the next day at UPS Ground rate.
