Hey guys,

I have a very weird problem and I have no idea where to even begin to fix it. So, without creating a wall of spam, I'll just hop into it.

Two days ago my computer was running perfectly fine as it had been for several months, when I woke up the computer had somehow restart itself and was frozen on the windows starting logo, I attempted to restart into safe mode and it got stuck at classpnp.sys, after a lot of googling and trying out different things I unplugged one of my hard drives and it finally booted up normally. So, after that I decided to shut the computer down, re-plug in the hard drive (it contained about 700 of my movies / other programs, etc) and was going to see if it would load up fine again ....this is where the problem started. When I shut my computer down it refused to turn back on. My motherboard, as Asrock 890fx deluxe 3 displays lights that says 00, which should mean it's working perfectly but there is no display on the monitor. I tried changing out / replacing the ram, I tried a different video card, I even tried a different motherboard / cpu / ram / video card, I tried a different monitor too. The lights / fans on the mobo and graphics card (radeon 5850) all turn on and work perfectly. I have no idea what may be causing this, I was thinking possibly the hard drive as I don't have another to try, but if that was the problem the computer would at least boot up and tell me to insert a hard drive ..I think? I've also tried unplugging the power cord and holding down the power button for 1 minute, tried resetting the cmos on the mobo, etc..

So, anyone have any clues at all as to what could be causing this?

No, there is no display showing up, can't access anything.

Radeon 5850
AMD 1090t black edition
asrock 890fx deluxe 3
mushkin ddr3 ram (don't remember speeds)
one hard drive is from an old laptop
second is from an old external
(my original broke during a move and had these lying around)
27 inch hp 2710 monitor

The mobo doesn't make any beeping noises either, which is why I -think- that's the problem, but when I plugged my psu into the different motherboard it had the same issue, that's why it's so confusing to me. >_<

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, it sounds like the PSU. If you take the PSU and plug it into another machine and that machine also doesn't work (assuming it was known good before) that sounds like the PSU is bad. Sadly, it may have killed your other motherboard :'( hence why swapping the psu doesn't do anything

Well, the psu powers up the mobo, lights, cpu, and fans as well as turns on ..would it still be dead and be able to do that?

00 is not "No fault" on the diag leds, "FF" is sucessful POST. 00 is something else, look it up.

I looked in the booklet, 00 means passed onto OS, when I turn the power on it instantly goes to 00 instead of different numbers first (pretty sure it used to, but I honestly never really watched it)

Hello QisName, and welcome to AnandTech Forums.

Different BIOS versions can have different meanings for POST codes. I did a search and indeed one possible meaning of 00 is something like "int19 pass to bootloader" meaning it is ready to boot to the HDD.

Another possible meaning of 00 is that you are in BIOS from this link:
00
Your in the BIOS right now, if you cant see the BIOS cause your Display stays black, please check the description for POST Code 2b. If this is part of a loop please check the point "E8 -> 01 -> b2 -> 00 looping" above.

Finally, some boards (maybe Nvidia chipset) use 00 to mean "HW Init Initialize hardware devices" and if stuck on that it may be some kind of failed hardware.

VirtualLarry is right about FF being what a normally operating computer ends at for a code.

At this point you need to get serious about troubleshooting, which is to get a picture on your monitor. Start by unhooking ALL of the drives from the motherboard and reset CMOS. Does it now POST?

Yep, already reset the CMOS, took out battery for over an hour + reset it using the button on the mobo itself, still no display showing up.

Update: Okay, So I tried everything on my mother mobo, my two old graphics both didn't work for some reason (knowing that earlier would have helped a lot, lol) so I decided to put my 5850 into old mobo and it finally turned on with display..So that means the problem is either the mobo or my ram? So that seems to be a start..

Yes. Seen that a lot at work when everything look power on but no post. Use a psu tester to test your psu or another good working psu to test on your computer.
