Thanks to all who have served or who are currently serving in the US Military. We owe our freedom and way of life to you.
I was just about to post a Veteran's Day thread. I wanted to ask if the comments to this blog post represent the average liberal:

lol @ this thread.
I'm guessing most of you guys don't have a clue what today is about.
Today is a very special day. November 11 marks the end of fighting in World War 1. You're supposed to remember what WW1 was all about, why it started, and how it could have been avoided. The point is that millions of people died for nothing. The issue that caused that war was was not resolved by the time the war ended, and it's still not resolved today. The Balkans are still a region of constant battles and bullshit.
You guys beating your chest and having military parades just don't get it. That is the bullshit that started World War 1. Powerful countries were all flexing their muscles and showing off and none of them were willing to relax and work things out. Austria-Hungary's first response to terrorism was military action against Serbia. Russia responded by mobilizing the army and preparing for attack against Austria-Hungary. Rather than rethinking the situation and backing down, Austria-Hungary got full support from Germany to keep going. Germany and Austria-Hungary declaring war against Russia brought France into the war. Britain and France had a fairly good relationship, so Britain joined the war as well.
After 4 years of fighting and millions of people dead, nothing was gained. Austria-Hungary was broken apart, Germany was broken apart, Russia was overthrown and became the Soviet Union, and France and Britain both lost an entire generation of young men. All of that just to defend a group of state-supportedMuslimSerbian terrorists whoblew up the wtckilled the leader of a country.

Hey don't blame me because you failed grade 10, 11, and 12 history class.Oh damn, I was under the impression that Veteran's day was about honoring the Veterans that served and died for their country, and not about arguing the merit of the complex geopolitical situations leading to the conflicts in which these people were put.
Seriously, kid, you need to go fuck yourself.
A federal holiday, it is observed on November 11. It is also celebrated as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world, falling on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.)

The most disgraceful thing about today is that people actually go on TV and on forums and claim that today is about remembering the fight for freedom. That is probably the most offensive thing anyone could ever say. When someone says that, they're saying WW1 was a good war, that it was worth fighting, and that it should be fought again if the issue happens again. It wasn't. WW2 was a good war; it was to stop fascism. Korea was a good war; it stopped communism. WW1 didn't stop shit. WW1 was just millions and millions of people dying for nothing. You need to remember that so it never happens again.
Veterans Day is an annual United States holiday honoring military veteranshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veterans.
I like the way you chose to leave this part out of your quote.
The U.S. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed an Armistice Day for November 11, 1919. In proclaiming the holiday, he said
"To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with lots of pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations."[2]
Well wasn't that nice of them. What made WW1 so unique was that it was the biggest war in history and it was all for nothing. Most people can't even explain what WW1 was about or how it started. That was why it had its own holiday - so people would remember it. Luckily congress is there to gloss over something as important as that and make it just another meaningless holiday. :\Congress amended this act on June 1, 1954, replacing "Armistice" with Veterans, and it has been known as Veterans Day since
lol @ this thread.
The American Revolutionary War was a fairly significant war. The country stood together to fight against a super power and they won.WWi was the first real war that the country stood together to fight.
It's unfortunate you weren't killed in combat. Racist bigots like you bring shame to the military.Go fuck yourself. Don't forget to report me either ratboy.
