Does anybody have experience with VGA to Componenet adapters such as this one from Audio Authority:
http://www.audioauthority.com/...t_details/9A60/RGB/5/1

??

I was thinking of purchasing one, and I needed to know if it will automatically be recognized as a moniter through the OS (ie, through ForceWare or through Personalize Settings in Vista).

Thanks

I'll be using it with a geforce 6600

why dont you use the component out cable that came with the 6 series card? does the 6600 not have that port? it looks kinda like a svideo port

They are okay, but somewhat problematic since NTSC is 59.94hz and video cards generally output at 60hz. That means every 17 seconds you are going to have a skipped frame/screen tearing. It's fine with static screens but can be annoying during media/movie playback.

man, does the display you're trying to run component into have DVI, VGA, or HDMI? i would run straight out of the vga/dvi on the back of the 6600 into one of these 3 ports if they are available.

I'm wondering the same thing. I got myself a dvi to component cable and it doesn't seem to work with my 7950gt.
With an s-video cable I can find my monitor and tv listed and clone the display without any issues. Using the dvi-component cable I get something listed as analog device, but nothing shows up on my hdtv. Sucks because I was hoping that the dvi-component would give me a little better looking output on the tv.

Do those things even work? How can a DVI (digital) signal turn into analog (component) without an actual electronic converter component? I don't think you can just slap an adapter on one end and a different one on another when the signal types are completely different.

You mean, like this works? It's the same concept.

It doesn't. VGA/DVI to component requires active conversion unless there are pins on the DVI connector going unused that can be stolen for transmitting a component signal. This isn't usually the case, which is why we have video cards with extra pins on their TV-out connector to carry the component signals.

Because the Force TV Detection isn't working in Vista and I'm tired of fighting with ForceWare to try to get it to work. So, I thought that maybe if I put this on, it would be detected as a monitor and easy to get working.

The display (a plasma HDTV) does, but my A/V switcher does not, so the aanswer is no. Otherwise I would have gone that route, its much easier.

Can this be fixed? Audio Authority's site says to use PowerStrip, which seems like it change the refresh rate, eh?

Yeah, I have one of these.

I was probably in the same situation as you-- old TV w/o any DVI inputs, old video card without the ability to output HD. I used the Audio Authority box to hook my aging HDTV up to my computer which at the time was using a old 6800. The box works great, I have no complaints once I got the thing set up correctly.

The problem is setting it up correctly though-- I spent many hours working with PowerStrip getting the exact resolution, refresh rate, ect to sync up with my TV. If you have a newer HDTV it might be easy -- just use some of the default 1080/720p settings, but it wasn't so easy with my TV. Once I got the box set up and working correctly, outputting to my TV was as simple as activating my second monitor, then selecting the correct resolution.

Hope that helps.

I was glad when I got a new video card which could output through component without that box though. The 7900gt I have now does all that box did, without the added clutter of that thing.

Ok so the dvi to component cable I got just isn't going to work?

Now before I buy another cable, are you guys saying that the dvi to component adapter that comes with the video card would be the way to go?
