VGA to DVI

I want to connect my T60 (which only has VGA) to an LCD with DVI input. Now, I know there are DVI to VGA boxes that cost like $200. I found This at J & R. Would this work for my needs? If so, what will the highest resolution be on a 1080p lcd?

Don't VGA-DVI adapter plugs come standard with the latest video cards? I can't imagine that they're too expensive. $29.99 seems like a lot.

That looks like a mislabeled DVI to VGA cable.

It's very easy to go from DVI-I to VGA (with the adapters AmberClad linked to) but it sounds like you need to go from VGA to DVI-D, which is a different story.

You're going to need a rather expensive solution to get this going. Any of these simple cables are going to be doing the opposite of what you need them to do.

Def. not mislabeled. I need VGA to DVI-I. This newegg product page says it can be done...I just want confirmation

The cable you found simply takes a VGA signal and puts the ANALOG signal into a DVI-I connector. It doesn't actually deliver a digital signal. It delivers an ANALOG signal to a DVD-I port that is able to accept both digital and analog signals.

If you need a DIGITAL signal, you need a different video card, or you need the $200+ adapters.

Here's more information on that cable.

"Connects any VGA monitor with HD15 female to any computer with DVI port, or vice versa. The DVI port must have DVI-I in order to support analog signal. (Connectors: HD15 Male to DVI Male; Length: 25ft)"

I'll just be plain old VGA, coming in through a different cable connector. I haven't used a big-screen digital TV, so I really can't advise you.

A lot of displays will only accept DVI-D throught their DVI input. If your model works when fed a signal from VGA, then a simple cable will work for you.

I thought we were talking a large-screen TV here. If you are only going to a typical desktop LCD, then I wouldn't worry about DVI at all. I use dual 19-inch LCD monitors side by side all day long, one with VGA and one with DVI connections, and I couldn't tell you which is which without checking the connectors.
