Wut

Anyways I was able to beat the tess disabled 7970 score with 930 core.

At this point it's about 1000 points above stock 580 SLI performance.

I don't think there is anything wrong with comparing last gen to this gen even if Nvidia doesn't have anything out yet for this gen.

I do it myself when I get 30-50% more performance than a 7970 overclocked with considerably less invested while having enjoyed that performance for over a year now.

So you have less money invested in your gtx470's that beat the 7970?

How about your water cooling setup?

There is no way you spent less on two gtx470's and 2 water blocks, and a pump/radiator. For what it cost you to put your water cooling on the gtx470's you could almost buy two 7970's and absolutely destroy what you're running. There is no way you have less money invested.

You clearly have no idea what anything costs.

My entire setup cost $1500 total, two 7970s alone would run me $1100.

Yeah no question, considering they'd cost 2.5 times more, years after I got my 470s.

Talk about progress, kind of goes without saying though doesn't it?

Make it colder

And I'm feeling awful for you right now, two 1125MHz 7970's in crossfire must be so hard to cope with

you guy's still at this
-easy debate 470sli will hit a vram wall in bf3 and stop - so simple.
-if it crashes my 580sli @ 1538 mb vram fps , dive from 60ish to 20, so a 470sli will crash a lot sooner -end of story sorry.
-no thanks required for that input.

Seems to be a driver problem, I never had any problem maxing it out at 1080p for a very long time.

However you're right currently with 4xAA it stutters as if it isn't allocating the vram correctly anymore.

But I figured out FXAA + SGSSAA produces better imagine quality anyways without the frame lags.

Here is an upload from me on Oct 24 2011 with BF3 maxed at 1080p

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miarXLcIoCY

Edit: It could also be that they "solved" the system memory leak by placing the burden on the gpu vram as well. There is no reason a 1.5GB of vram isn't enough for BF3 at 1080p.

Wow man, that is almost as fast as this single AMD Radeon HD7970... well not quite, but it's close. You might could pass it with 3 or 4 OC'd 470's...

Now stop hating in these AMD threads please.

Wow man, I wonder how he manages to play 3DMark11 with tess off while feeding the pot with LN2.

Quit bringing up retarded things totally out of context.

Well no, that's not how anyone looks at it. You can't call someone out and say you're going to hold hard evidence against them in the future to keep them honest and then come back with this timid "j/k" after getting reprimanded in return. You're not naive, so I'm going to guess your backtracking after firmly securing your foot in your mouth. Hopefully this lesson will improve your decorum in future posts.

I offered an apology because of how what I said made you feel. Not because of what I said. What I said stands. Learn that lesson and mind your tone when speaking to me.

He's a smart shopper looking for bang/buck

Me on the other hand, I make pretty terrible decisions. I upgraded a P8Z68 motherboard to a P8Z68 pro gen3. I suck at saying no to new toys. Can't say no I love new tech I guess

2xgtx470's go for about $400 now. You said you bought them a year ago they probably cost more back then.
2xwaterblocks is about $200.
Add in resovoir
Pump/tubing.

You're wrong.

You're talking close to $7-800 dollars for your GPU's under water. If you think otherwise you're not adding in all your costs to the equation.

Oh. I'm pretty clueless on water setups. I need to get that going on my new rig, once I figure out how to overclock GPU2 past 1125

I can't really account for any crazy deals or sales you got on stuff. New gtx470's are actually pretty expensive right now.

There was just a thread in this forum a month or 2 ago where a number of members bought brand new gtx 480's for 199.99 from newegg.
I saw gtx 470's for sale in the neighborhood of what we saw, on sales of 5850's this past year. Cheap.

@AnandThenMan No words! They should have sent a poet.

Because they went EoL due to 5 series awhile ago.

It's like trying to buy a Q9550 now, you're overpaying.

I still find them new in box on ebay for around $150 though, serial based cards will still have warranty from whenever it was manufactured. I actually have another sitting in my desk that I paid $150 for that I haven't decided what to do with yet. I was considering at WS revolution for tri, but tbh nothing has come out where I lack enough gpu power at my res yet.

Though I'm not advocating anyone buy 470's, to be clear

Yeah don't argue with me please, I'd rather have a conversation with someone who actually knows what is going on.

Not with someone who can't get settings right, only runs 33% of the Crysis 2 tests, then does random settings which net him 50%+ performance over another 7970 from an additional 175Mhz overclock.
Neither of the screenshots you posted detail the settings you used in either benchmark, so the best any of us could do was guess. Nice attempt at making your benchmarks as ambiguous as possible so you can hide behind them. Here are the Crysis 2 runs on my card at exactly the settings you specified:

And look at that! Your cards are only 4.8% faster in the first test, the test you condemned, but are actually 5.1% and 7.3% slower in the second and third tests, respectively. That's a far cry from the "30-50%" faster you claimed, isn't? You'll also notice that my minimum FPS are anywhere from 2.3 to 4.5x higher than yours. So I'm getting faster and smoother performance. But no, GTX 470 SLI is 30-50% faster, right?

Also, I enjoy how you've changed this to a "price/performance" argument now, since your points were so thoroughly refuted. Did you not write within this very same thread:
And if it isn't faster, they'll talk about performance per watt and price vs performance.

The key to victory is changing the conditions to suit your needs.
The hypocrisy is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

You offered an apology as a ruse to deflect from your true intention of calling me a fanboy, which blew up in your face. You're going to realize here and from now on that you are expected to behave properly not only per the forum rules but also as a decent person, just like everyone else here. Underhanded or snide comments and insinuations will not go unnoticed and you will be called out on them. Since this is a public forum, I'm being as polite as I have to, enjoy it. Now, this discussion ends here; stop wasting forum space.
