VGASAVE driver loading... can't get rid of it...

So my Matrox driver was being a freak and interlacing the display on my 2nd monitor and I decided to reload the driver. After I did so, I booted into XP x64 with the VGASAVE driver loaded.

I can boot the system in VGA mode, and last known good also loads the VGA driver. But no matter what I've tried I can't get the matrox driver loaded back up.

Things I've tried so far:
Boot to safe mode, remove matrox drivers, reboot, reinstall matrox driver
Boot to VGA mode, uninstall matrox driver, reboot, reinstall matrox driver
Boot to last known good configuration (loads VGA driver) uninstall/reinstall matrox driver...

The driver I'm using is an x64 driver and it used to work fine.

I saw this once before on a VIA chipset board with an integrated S3 video chip -
I fixed it and can't remember how... something pretty obscure.
Even when I swapped video cards on the VIA chipset system, (added in a NV card and loaded the driver) the VGASAVE driver would still load..

Anyone else run into this or have a good page I can visit to break the loop with this VGA/VGA SAVE driver issue I'm seeing?

Going back to a restore point is an option... I'd rather fix the issue though so I know how to deal with it again.

TIA -

I'll reply to my own post and maybe someone will find this info helpful.

I was able to find the original post I found when this issue had happened before and the fix worked in this case as well - Problem solved by doing the following:

The problem is with the chipset drivers for the AGP bus.
Uninstall your video drivers, boot in safe, vga, or vgasave mode (doesn't matter)
and reinstall your Intel INF or VIA 4in1 drivers - then reboot and install your Video drivers.

It's strange that anything would overwrite files having to do with your AGP bridges but I guess it happens.

Good luck!

Here's the actual way on how to fix VgaSave mode. First, go in Device Manager, then you'll find a yellow mark on PCI Express standard Root Port. Thats the main key to reactivate your VGA adapters. Close Device Manager. Then, go to start, type: cmd and run it as administrator. Then, in cmd, type this: bcdedit /set pciexpress forcedisable and then press Enter, then restart your computer and presto! Your VGA adapters are fixed. But, after they are fixed, it might display in Device Manager as Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. In order to put them back as the original adapters (like NVIDIA or ATI), you'll need to download them from the manufacturer's website. So, i hope this helped you and hope it works! Cheers!
