It will be using XBL right? Will you use the same gamertag? I can see that heavily influencing which console people choose.

Of course. People's tags carried over from Xbox 1 to Xbox 360 as well...

They need to drop the pay-for-multiplayer crap though. They need to make Gold just like Playstation Plus.

They won't, even the PS4 is expected to have pay to play multi player.

Well, the memory bandwidth of that 8GB of RAM is far less then that of the PS4.

just saw this and thought i'd share.

http://www.vgleaks.com/durango-xdk/

That last screen (if true) has quite a few juicy details:

1) It's more powerful than the 360 (obviously)
2) Kinect v2 included in every system, required for the system to work.
3) System has several power states and the system is "always on", such that it will provide updates to games when the system is not in use.
4) Every system will have a hard drive.
5) The system will come with a Blu-ray drive.
6) Games must be installed before they can be played. The optical drive is NOT used to play games.
7) Related to point 6, a user will be able to play a game while it is being installed.
8) There will be changes to the controller to make it appeal to the noncore gamer (we have no idea what that means, but lets not assume the worst).

Discuss!

I mean, of course they cant stick to the 360 controller layout right?

THAT would make too much sense. And not make Microsoft enough money. And of course all the console ports that will inevitably show up on PC will no longer have default control maps for the 360 controller, it will be for some clunky touchscreen device or whatever. F THAT.

Why are they taking regular video gaming away and replacing it with bells and whistles bullcrap?

Wow, only took 1 post to assume the worst. Why is it that any attempt to make things even slightly better for the noncore gamer means that Microsoft is declaring war on the hardcore? Save your outrage for when the system is actually unveiled (I will find it funny if the previous talk of the system requiring an Internet connection gets muted when Microsoft publicly refutes that point. The Internet loves to get riled up).

Yeah, I'm really hoping that Microsoft doesn't succumb to the stupidity of the rest of this generation's consoles and put a touchscreen on the new controller. We'll just have to wait and see.

I just want them to give me a huge hard drive. I have a 120 gb one now, and I am going to have to delete something when Bioshock comes out next week. The good news is I am sure I can find an old game install that I don't play anymore and just delete that to make the space. Now on the VGLeaks, as long as MS doesn't completely screw it up, I will be buying the next Xbox first, and it possibly would be my only system next gen. I have a ton of friends that will most likely jump to the new Xbox, and I usually only have 2-3 days a week to play games, usually only about 1-2 hours on those days. It would make no sense for me to buy both systems, at least not at first, so MS will have the upper hand next gen out the gate for me.

Whether I like the idea of a 100% required Kinect will depend on what changes are made to it. The biggest issue is that Kinect requires a lot of room, and not every setup affords it that privilege. For example, I have plenty of room for a Kinect downstairs, and I have one setup there. In both locations upstairs, I do not have enough room for a Kinect, and subsequently, I do not have one in either location. The article does suggest that it will work in smaller spaces, but my aforementioned small spaces are not designed for player-movement-oriented games.

So... do I really need a Kinect 2 on my XBOX 3 just so I can have it fail to interpret my voice commands?

I am hoping that the Kinect stuff in games will still be optional. I don't want to yell at my tv. In fact, I have my boys always running around and talking while I am playing, so I would hate for my Xbox to do something I didn't want it to do just because my kids decided to talk.

Here is a serious question, what would you do to make the 360 controller better for the non-core gamers with out screwing the core gamers?

I think controllers are getting pretty close to optimal for core gamers. We can play with size, analog controller types, and button layout a little, but none of these things would make it better for the non-core gamer.

my projector screen is about 20 feet away from my projector screen and resides in a closet. and that is the direct line of sight. if i were to run a kinect wire in the wall, which i'm not because i already ran my speaker wires from that closet through the walls to right under my screen, it would be about 45 feet worth of kinect wire.

additionally, if i stand up to game, you will have a shadow of my head on the bottom of the screen.

as of right now i plan on getting a 720 (and ps4) on day 1, barring some good launch titles, but if a kinect is required for 720 and has to be placed under/above the screen, and is wired, then chances are i will pass (at least at launch).

my wife has just as much trouble controlling a game with a 360 controller as she does with a wii mote. regardless which she uses, she totally over compensates her movements. it is all about practice.

Actually, I need to admit some fault. I misread the statement. The document doesn't say that the controller will be made easier for noncore gamers, but "system interactions that use the controller will be simplified to make them easier for the noncore gamer", which could be anything really (and not just a controller change). It could be as simple as a play/pause button on the controller. Who knows?

The mandatory installs and and always on connectivity are stirring up a hornets nest over at IGN. More fuel being added to the fire for Durango banning pre-owned games. I think Microsoft would have to be incredibly stupid to go ahead with that now and be the only system. So it's unlikely by all logic, but the rumour still won't go away. Even among Xbox fanboys.

Problem is they've kept a tight lip on the system. They've let Sony steal the spotlight for one. Secondly they're letting a lot of negative rumours swirl around without addressing them. Microsoft needs to get this thing officially announced ASAP.

Now we're thinking.

More importantly, always on, always connected, always updating means never able to hack the console (or at least never for very long, and or getting banned immediately if you do).

I explain both pretty easily:
1) Mandatory installs - because a 6x Bluray drive (24MB/sec) would take 4 minutes to fill 5GB of data available to games.
2) Always on, always connected - lets reverse that because it easily explains the 360, not always on (system is often in 100% off states), not always connected (cannot send commands to system remotely without it being on).

The tin foil hats we see on IGN and neogaf make it clear that people lack reading comprehension skills. Is it possible that used games are dead? Sure. Did they say that in this document? No.

People on the Internet also have this weird idea that Kinect is terrible trash that should never have been made, despite the fact that its hit 33% of the total install base of the 360. I don't know of a single periphral in the history of the video game industry that has ever hit those kinds of levels. And it cost $150 up until last year too.

This stuff is the very definition of FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt).

And how many of those Kinects sit unused now? I know of several people that don't use theirs anymore.

I just hope the always on doesn't translate to you have to be connected to use your system. We get really bad wind in the spring and there have been a few times that it is strong enough to knock out internet and tv for a while. I used to just throw on a single player game and run that until everything was working, and would hate to have that option taken away.

if this whole sim city 5 debacle didn't teach a lesson about "always on" to companies who want to do that, then i don't know...

I am not going to get a pitchfork or anything, but I will be paying attention to what happens with this "always on" stuff. I just don't see myself buying a console with those restrictions on it.
