via 4-in-1 for win2k

i downloaded the newest via 4-in-1 driver (i think it's version 4.32) and tried installing it on my Win2k SP2 machine. strangely enough, I have never had any success story with installing via 4-in-1 driver. always, the installation would freeze before it was completed. this happened with earlier version of the driver as well. i guess my real concern is that whether all those incomplete installations are bad for my system? if yes, what should i do to minimize potential disruptions? does anyone else have a similar problem??

Have you experienced any major crashing on your system? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

strange...i never had that problem b4...it would kinda "hang" and lag a lil but nothing like that.

Well then, I wouldn't worry about it. IMHO, the VIA drivers are useless on most systems. Don't bother trying to install any more of them.

Had the same problems with the 4.32 in Win2k SP 2. Before it would ask you to reboot it would go to black screen and reboot and then come up to a blue screen. Would have to use the fixboot command to get it back up.
I finally disabled everything in the virus scan (especially real time protection) and then I was able to re install the drivers but I went back to the 4.31's.

hm .. so it maybe a virus scan problem .. i will try completing the installation by disabling my virus scan first. but before I do that, bluezebra, why did you go back to 4.31?

To isolate the problem, you can install each part of the 4-in-1 individually. You may want to re-install SP2 and then install each one seperately. This will help you determine where the problem lies. (Make sure your Motherboard has the newest BIOS too! Almost all MOBO Mfr.'s have updated BIOSs for greater compatability with Windows 2k)

Same problem here. I just went back to 4.29 and everything runs just fine.

Now I just need to decide between &quot;if it ain't broke, don't fix it&quot; or &quot;my system's drivers should all be kept up-to-date&quot; philosophy. but at least I am equipped with extra knowledge.

Did just get the same problem, but I got some custom reboots before I did it so it maybe have something to do with that.

Havn't had any problems with installing them before.

(tried both 4.32 &amp; 4.31)
