I don't want to edit again but the Yamaha and 120 fan and 550 power supply is in the KT400, Nforce2 has a dual 80's in the front and a 350 watt, Makes little diff. I have been in the Army for 37 years and have my mind on something else

>Just saw that ABIT is also NOT going to release a KT400A product. X-BIT labs reporting again.

It doesn't really matter wether some companies release one or not, for them it's probably just a minor production decision based on NDA's or release dates. The CE 8237 stepping is just one above the CD that's going into the 400A. Put it this way EVEN if there were KT600 in mass production today and available retail it wouldn't make any difference since the CE stepping is (mainly) only there to support 400 FSB Bartons which aren't even out yet. So saying that the KT600 is late is just wrong, the KT600 will be here when the 400 FSB Bartons are released, releasing it before that time doesn't make any sense. I could just see people saying "finally I got a KT600 and then plopping a 2800 in it."

oh c'mon ..... 845G/GL chipset crashes peoples' machines. Is this what you call the 'Big Boys'

>may now release an revised NF2 as well and then that must be taken into account.

yea..... the battle never ends. Now what to do with my KT133 A7V board that's been running 24/7 for three straight years. (ok it crashed once but it was my fault)

all that said the Gigabyte 7VAXP-A Ultra KT400A is starting to look good.

C'mon guys... the future of chipsets is obvious. It all comes down to efficiency.

The future is complete integration of functions on-board. Integrated video will be the norm - even for enthusiasts. You are already seeing that trend begin with the nForce2 IGP, and the Xbox -which is, for all purposes, a PC.

nVidia has partnered up with AMD.
ATi has a similar partnership with Intel.
Via can only survive if it developes a compelling product in both the CPU and GPU arena.
SiS is out in the cold.

very well said, but I would also add 'stability' I would sacrafice %5 in performance for an ultra stable board/chipset. When it comes down to it most of the recent chipsets running at stock values are very very stable.

hahahaha I wouldn't sacrefice performance for anything muahahaha
all i need is one lucky boot and no bad luck for like 3 minutes to run my benchmarks then it can crash all it wants
muahahahahha

I also have a KT400 board (7VAXP) and from what I have seen the performance of the Nforce2 Platform is only marginally better due the configuration of my setup. For me the 5-10% increase in performance(if that) of the Nforce2 Platform is not really that enticing until we see the 400MHZ FSB Bartons come out. Then I will make a decision on upgrading. Furthermore, I have an ATA RAID 0 setup which I could not use on any of the Nforce2 mobos that I have seen. I was kind of interested in the Gigabyte kt400a, but it doesn't look like it will be have the overclocking features I am looking for like a PCI/AGP lock.....

Not if you're an OEM - it comes down to cost. Who do you think still buys all of those TNT2-M64's? That's also why I wouldn't count SiS out yet either. If they can keep pulling off stuff like the 655 (roughly Granite Bay performance for roughly 1/2 the price) they can survive quite nicely.

Good job Evan. You're not as Bitter as you first were when the KT400A was first announced.

geez gigabyte sucks
i liked the review tho
it seems like all the other reviews showed kt400a chipset atleast winning some of the benchmarks
that board wasn't even competitive toward the single channel nforce configuration, unless you consider price
yeah via needs dual channel and lots of new ideas for prefetch stuff and buffers

good job

Nice review. Seems that VIA did an OKAY job with the new chipset but it still lacks behind the nforce2.

... I would have been so bummed if I had held off on getting an nForce2 board any longer and then these results came rolling in.... And no 1/6 divider... what is VIA thinking???

Is there any info on the SOYO Dragon KT400A? I've been waiting for this board for quite a while...I am desperately hoping it comes out this week. I know you stated that you don't know if they are sending a board or not, but I just thought I'd take a chance.

Well, No KT400A from Soyo.

Thank you for your inquiry. Soyo decided to cancel our project for KT400A,
instead we are planning to release KT600 Dragon 2 motherboard by late Late
June time frame.

I have AOpen and DFI KT400A boards here, but they're using the 8235 South Bridge. It has just been revealed to me that tier one motherboard makers will have their KT600 motherboards with 8237 South Bridges going into MP (mass production) by the end of June or first week of July (at least, that's what these manufacturers are estimating right now).
