Sorry, that was just a quote from your link, showing that they indeed did specify a TDP.

Oh, thanks for that, actually. I missed that blurb.

So 27.5W TDP huh. Their process disadvantage is showing.

Yeah -- as someone who has actually used a Via Quadcore -- I can tell you it's a nice little chip.... But it is totally out of its league competing against the quad core Athlon 5350.

. . . especially when you consider that part of the 5350's power budget is spent on its iGPU, which is something completely absent from the Via Quadcore. The comparison between the x4 550 and a Quadcore would just get worse for Via.

It is interesting that you have had a chance to use one of these chips, especially considering the recent release. Where did you get/use one, and what were your impressions?

And . . . did you overclock it??!?

AMD Athlon X4 530 2.0GHz (also 25W TDP). Anyway.

The 550 is 2.2 ghz and is also listed as a 25W TDP part. There is probably some number fudging in there, but then there is also probably number-fudging on most TDP ratings from all CPU manufacturers so big whoop. In any case, either the 530 or 550 will be faster than any of Via's Quadcore products.

Of course, but you need dGPU yet !!! What you use? With what TDP and power consumption? => AMD Athlon X4 550 2.2GHz (25W TDP) + dGPU (??W TDP) = ???

The Quadcore chips also require some sort of external GPU (presumably one soldered onto a BGA motherboard), so it is largely a moot point. The fact remains that committing 25W of your power budget to a CPU-only Kabini will net you more performance than a Quadcore that is chewing up 27.5W of your power budget. Both the 530 and 550 should be significantly faster.

It's good that Via is trying to stay in the game, but some of their performance claims seem overly-enthusiastic.

Well, I played around with the 1.2 Ghz version Quadcore like this board:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VIA-EPIA-M9...023595699?pt=Motherboards&hash=item486a7370b3

They have been around for awhile -- and I've always been curious about VIA chips.... I'm tinkered with the C3, C7 and Nano stuff over the years. The existing Via Quad Core performs a little better than older Atom dual cores.... They're okay, but like I mentioned earlier the AM1 Athlons kick their ass in performance. The performance of the 1.2 Ghz Via Quad core is closest to the AM1 Sempron 3850 (the AMD CPU is still a bit faster.... the Radeon GPU is way faster). Via's onboard graphics are still pretty lousy.

I thought we compare the new VIA QuadCore (2014) and not the VIA QuadCore L4700 1.2 GHz 27,5W TDP (2011 with CPU microarchitecture 2009) vs AMD Athlon Kabini 550 or 5350 25W TDP (2014 with CPU microarchitecture 2013) ???

That's the goal. If I've pasted the wrong CPU stats and I'm still using the old ones please link me the updated ones for Isiah II.

Of cource that new VIA QuadCore need "require some sort of external GPU (presumably one soldered onto a BGA motherboard)" = all-in-ine chipset VIA VX11H MSP 5,8W TDP (NordBrige+SouthBridge with VIA Chrome 645/640 DX11 iGPU in one chip).

Yep, that.

I've been wanting to play with a quad core Nano, but no one seems to want to sell them. All I've found are a small number of low end mini-ITX boards for outrageous prices.
