Via, vortex2, and win2k problems

Got this from another thread of mine. This has totally driven me crazy. I've installed win2k like 15 times now with varying setups. Has anyone gotten their vortex based sound card to work in 2k with a via chipset? I've tried the latest beta aureal drivers, but that hasn't worked. I'm thinking about buying a new sound card. What's the best one for win2k support? I'm thinking of one of the Live series or the Phillips Accoustic Edge.

Sound cutting off after a period of time is a classic problem with the Aureal based cards installed on VIA based boards and running under Win2K. The fact that the sound cuts out after a period of time is going to make you suspect all kinds of things and drive you crazy.

It works fine for me in Win2K....after a lot of troubleshooting. For my system it HAS to share an IRQ with the video card to work.

I tried any cryied! Never got my MX300 to work in my dual boot '98 2K system.

Got a Soundblaster Live Xgamer and it works flawlessly...but I miss the A3D!

Mine would just cut out if two sounds were played at once.
I went ahead and bought a philips acoustic edge and put the vortex in my mom's computer.

This is a known problem that exists with the Via and Aureal chipsets which has kept me from running 2K for about half a year now. And my feeling is this won't be fixed as Aureal no longer exists which leads to no new drivers coming out that might fix this problem

thanks all for helping me find the problem. without it, i'd probably still be doing reinstalls of win2k. I'm more than likely going to get a Santa Cruz or Philips Acoustic Edge. Hopefully these won't have the similar win2k problems.

my mx300 is using the beta win2k vortex 2 drivers and components and running fine, for the most part..barring some a3d errata that is...

i want to kill creative for aureal's lack of driver support, since it ran them to the ground in court fees...bastards.
