1.Budget(Be sure to include currency if not USD): $150-2200

2.
Do you consider rebates?
I hate Rebates.

3.Brand
Preference: No.

4. Crossfire/SLI? No.

5.Have you previously looked at a product which you feel would fill your needs? No, not recently.

6.Which games (If any)do you plan to play and @ which desired detail levels? CSS, Warsow; Every now and then some new title.

7. Are there any other uses(Folding, Photoshop, Video editing or watching Blu-Ray) or features (DX11, CUDA, OpenGL, 3D, Eyefinity) you are looking for besides gaming? PHotoshop, folding, Blu-ray, maybe play with CUDA(not that important though)

8. Is the performance added by overclocking something you would take into consideration? No, I'm done overclocking.

Since folding is important to you, then your path should be with Nvidia. For an econo-system, your first consideration should be the Palit GTS 450 Sonic, which uses little power and competes with the HD 5770. Higher up you can look at any GTX 460 1GB, I prefer the ones from Palit for the quieter coolers but any manufacturer should do. You would need a PSU of 700watts or more for GTX 460 or higher. You may also be able to find GTX 470 for less than $220 for sale sometimes, much more powerful than the 460 but uses more electricity and runs hot, so good case cooling and quality PSU is a must. I personally use a Palit GTX 470 with a Thermaltake toughpower 750 PSU. The GTX 470 reaches 92 degrees on stress tests but only about 74 on actual gaming. And the Palit dual fan cooling solution is reasonably quiet.

What? I've seen people run SLI GTX460 with a quality 650watt. So I'm not sure where 700watt for single 460 comes from.

Whats your PSU and system specs OP?

I've run a Q6600 @ 3.6, and TWO GTX460 1GB cards at 820Mhz, on an EarthWatts 650 for a month. Not really recommended, I'm sure it was close to the limit, but it's doable.

I have a PCPC 750W from many moons ago when PCPC was still PCPC. So, that is not a problem.

You haven't mentioned resolution. If its something lower like 1680x1050 you are better off getting the cheaper 768 model.

This is easy, 460 1GB , make sure its 1GB vesrion as that has higher memory bandwidth.

we need to add questions for 1. cpu/oc'd speed, and 2. monitor resolution. generally speaking the gtx 460 768 should be in your sweet spot even without rebates. if you're willing to try them you can get a galaxy for $93 right now from TD, just saw the thread over in hot deals.

edit: if you go with evga, make sure that you get the AR version if possible. KR is ok and usually $10-20 or so cheaper, but it only has 3 years instead of lifetime warranty plus is not available for step up (in case you decide that you want a beefier card). if you do go with a KR model then you can pay $10 to evga when you register the card to upgrade it to a 5 year warranty and become eligible for stepup at the same time.

GTX 460. Just picked one up for cheap to replace an xfx 512mb hd 4850 and I'm shocked. Currently scaled back 10mhz from max oc @ 860 mhz core/1720 shader and it screams.

Way faster than the 4850 and quieter to boot.
