Awesome tool for the non-mechanically inclined. 20" long? I think I can take the trap off the drain, remove the clog, and put the trap back together in less time than it took to remove the shrink wrap from that tool.

Did this yesterday [without that tool]. For the life of me I couldn't figure out why Draino wasn't working.

I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty [plus I've been doing a lot of DIY remodeling around the house].

Pulled off the elbow to find nothing.
Removed the drain plug and noticed the same black goo which has been building up over the last 12 years.

I used a screwdriver to shove an old towel through the drain pipe to clean it out.

oh yeah, i had water not going down shower, saw that at home depot for 2 bucks and got it.. works great.. so much hair from the gf down the pipe, and it stunked... after the hair got out, did some enzyme cleaning just in case...

almost call plumber, would have wasted a lot of money

So whenever I try to unclog a drain it was always with chemicals waiting for it to "break down" all the garbage but ultimately it never works. Disgusting fumes and very ineffective.

I was at Menards and the cost was around 2.95 if my memory was correct and today I had the opportunity to try this beast out. See the video below.

PS - excuse my runny nose.

Product name: Zip-It
By: Cobra Products, Inc.

You seemed terrified to grab the glob with your hands once you got it part way out. Some nitrile gloves go a long ways sometimes.

I purchased a zipit in the past but returned it for a refund after it was fairly ineffective getting all the hair that was wrapped around the drain stop lever.

The stop on mine is secured at it's base by a cross-lever that goes thru the base of the drain stop, mounted on the side of the drain pipe. In other words, I can't pull out my drain stop without unmounting/removing the lever first.

After removing that and opening up the j-pipe, I was able to clean 100% of the beloved patriot out.

We use it on the shower drain all the time. We can't get the stopper off so this is the best solution.

I think the inventor drew inspiration from those Amazonian fish that swim up your urethra

It hasn't been mentioned yet, but an expansion nozzle is another effective plumbing tool.

If you can simply lift the stoppper out of the sink it isn't connected properly. A drain can be unclogged by removing the clip, stopper rod, and stopper, then unscrewing the P-trap and cleaning them all thoroughly, and it won't cost a dime. It will stay clog-free for far longer too because the Zip-It method still leaves residual sludge and hair that will cause the drain to clog again in a relatively short period of time.

I wonder how many drains instantly became unclogged (and lost their virginity) to this video... somewhere in the vicinity of 259, perhaps? lol

I'm sure there's been a few stories of dicks stuck in pipes/faucets. I saw one such story in the local news.

I just use my plunger in the sink. It seems to work.

Drano is just sodium hydroxide btw. It's not toxic, but very caustic. It'd merely raise the pH of the water, but so would loads of soap you wash down the drain.
