video card\driver problem ?

A while back I built a computer for a friend, Abit kg7,AMD Athlon 1800+, Radeon 7000 VE, 256 PNY DDR PC2100,Soundblaster Live Value,40gb WD 7200,CD-ROM, Win 98 SE. Everything works fine EXCEPT the Freecell game that is included with win 98, which is his wifes favorite game. When you try open it, the first screen is ok, then when you go to "game new" all you get is 2 green
rectangles on a white background. Installed latest drivers, did 2 clean installs of win 98. If you uninstall video drivers the
game works in the basic vga. Any ideas?

I have no idea what is causing this freecell problem.

EDIT: I just checked out my freecell (i'm on win98 also) and it opens with an error message. a conspiracy, methinks.

My freecell is working fine. P4 2.8GHz 512 DDR and Radeon 9500 pro with 3.2 cats and Direct X 9. and ATI control panel.
I cant imagine what is doing this. Except maybe you should use an older driver instead of the latest. You are using an aging OS.
The newest and latest drivers might be more geared for Windows Me, or 2000 or XP. Just a guess. I would install the original drivers that came
with the Radeon card on the CD. See what happens. You have nothing to lose as far as I can tell. But I must say, you must be outta your mind to reinstall Windows 98 from scratch twice no less in order to get just freecell working. IMHO. No offense of course.
