Video Card Dying?

My video card is starting to act up in the last few days. It would randomly show a garbled screen full of artifacts. At first I thought maybe it's overheating, but temperature monitor shows mid 30C. So just to be safe I clocked it back down to stock speeds. It still does it. Normally I would say the card is about to die because the last few video cards that died on me did the same thing, but the difference is that once they started showing the artifact screen, they never go back to normal regardless of reboots. Right now if my screen get garbled, I can reboot, and get back to normal, which lasts from a few hours to an entire day. I have a VGA cable on the way so I will try that once it gets here (it's hooked up through DVI right now). What do you guys think?

I would say to stop overclocking and burning up your videocards. Turning it down to stock doesn't "undo" the damage either.

I find that extreme overclocking of videocards isn't worth the risk. I prefer to overclock my CPU's and leave my videocards stock. Other may argue my philosophy but then I've never burned up a CPU or a videocard.

Driver issues normally wouldn't cause artifacts, from the info the OP has provided it sounds like his card is on life support.

The same thing sometimes happens to my AGP X800pro. Probably because I did the mod to make it into an X800XT PE and it didn't like it, though it ran fine for ~1 year. Oh well no matter I'm going to be building a new PC this Christmas anyway.

I had a similar situation with my 1800xt. It got progressively worse and eventually completely lost my video signal. I ordered a 1900xt, and still no video signal. Checked my debug lights (should have done this first) and my ram wasnt passing. Switched out the ram for my old sticks and still no go. Turned out it was my motherboard. Try to isolate the problem before you go spending hundreds of dollars.

If you're referring to me, I'm building a new PC because I want to and have the money, not because of the artifact problems which are only occasional anyway. It'd be a waste of money for me to replace the mobo / ram / anything else on my current PC.

If you're not, oh well I just explained anyway.
