Hello,

I have been looking around for a good card that will run SC2 on max at 1380x768 right now and allow for a monitor upgrade. Maybe 1600x900.

5770
5750
GTS 250 (no DX11)

I am looking for around $150 and under.

Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks

for 1360x768 a 5750 but if you have a decent cpu then certainly 5770. for 1600x900 I would stretch it to a gtx460 768mb if your cpu is decent.

A 5770 with max setting (with AA) should net him about 40 fps avg.

For a few bucks more a gtx 460 768 would net him 78fps avg. at the same settings..

At 1600x1200 a gtx460 768 would give him 60 fps avg.

it would still be nice to know what the rest of the pc looks like. if people are not going to use sigs then they need to list their specs when asking for any video card or upgrade advice.

SC2 is very Nvidia favoured at the moment. A GTS 250 outperforms a 5770 in SC2, but loses in most other games. A 9800GTX+ is exactly the same as a GTS 250, so as you can see by the benchmarks happymedium linked, it is a better choice.

This is not for my PC however the CPU is a single core Pentium 4. Corsair 550w PSU along with 4GB of memory.

Maybe I could get away wit a 5750?

if you're into gaming then might as well change your P4 and opt for a better computer

you have to be kidding. if not then what is happening to this forum as of late? people that have been here for years starting threads giving no pc info and nobody even asking questions before giving suggestions on what to buy. even a 5750 would be utterly retarded in a system with a single core P4.

Toyota did they even make a pent 4 board with a pci-e slot? 4 gb of memory?
He has a Corsair 550 watt psu with that system?

Wait, a single core pent 4 with a pci-e slot and 4gb's of memory? are you sure?

LGA775.

Op, just find a cheap Radeon 4850 (70 to 80 bucks) and don't expect more than 20-30fps with a single core at low resolutions. At higher resolution's a P4 is going to choke no matter what but it should still be playable.

A DX11 part on a P4 is pointless.

jesus christ how does that thing still run games at any enjoyable level for you? take everyone's advice and upgrade your cpu as well, look at a cheap athlon 2 combo and a DDR2 motherboard (assuming you're using DDR2 667mhz at least), else if your memory is DDR or it is to slow to be compatible, get a DDR3 board, new memory, and a 5750. if you live near a frys we have $120 tricore/board combos pretty regularly, memory can be had for $80 on sale for 4GB of DDR3 some places, and 5750 has some nice deals right now, just make absolute sure you get the 1GB model IF you want to consider a monitor upgrade as well. if you do this, you will still leave yourself wanting though even in SC2 if you upgrade to 1680x1050 or higher soon. i would seriously consider looking at putting away for a much faster up to date rig, unless SC2 is all you plan to play for the next few years
