Video card keeps installing

i installed a cirrus logic 5446 pci video card into my ol pentium 100 computer and i have win98 se as my operating system. the thing is when i loaded 98 it detected the video card and i restarted and it kept just wanting to restart as it kept finding the video card.

so i started in safe mode and found there was 18 cirrus logic devices in device manage what is up with that and can anyone help me with a solution

Sorry, I don't know the true solution.....

But, I do know that W9x often will ghost hardware items, and you can only see that they are ghosted in Safe Mode for some reason. I haven't run into 18 of one device, but often found several monitors, floppy drives, and hard drives that I hadn't even had for years.

You can try deleting everyone of them suckers in safe mode, then do a full shutdown. Start it up again, might work.

If your bios supports it, you can try changing your "Have PnP OS" to whichever is different than you have it set to now....after you've deleted all the ghosted vid cards.

You can delete a hardware key via regedit that will delete everything in device mangler, and force W9x to refind everything. And, I do mean everything. You would want to have all your drivers handy, of course.

Also, I think I read that there is a setting in the registry that tells the OS on bootup to either find new devices, or not find new devices. I'll be darned if I know what it is tho. You might try a google search.
