Video Card Normal Idle Temp?

I'm running SLI, 7900GT KO Superclock from Evga and I'm using right now the XTreme-G 92.91, and my idle temps are 57-59.

Isn't that a bit high for idle temps?

I thought like 48-50 is more normal?

My 6800GT idles at 59 degrees C. I've got a Zalman VF-700cu on it. That's the same idle temp I've had since purchasing this card in 2004. I'd say that your temps are normal.

those temps are high according to this review from firingsquad which was probably done on a open bench test system. stock cooling isn't the best for a 7900GT, i experienced similiar temps with my 7900GT on stock cooling (55c idle) before installing a NV5 rev.3.

I idle at 55c with my x1900GT, a lot of my friends idle in the 60's with their 7800GTXs/7900GT/X's. Its nothing to worry about.

My Old 6800 idles around 45, my dead x1900xt 45-50, my current 7900GTO at 40.

Ok, also if there has been a bios update for the cards is this a good thing to do update them, any pros or cons on this?

no BIOS update (sorry for the confusion)...i installed a Arctic Cooling Silencer NV5 rev.3 that did wonders for my idle and load temps.

Howzit,

How about changing the ambient temperature of the room with an A/C? Just an suggestion.

Maybe you can get one of those 250mm case fans that have a 17dBA rating. Quiet but they more a lot of air. I'm waiting for them to be available.

You know I was just looking this over again, and with the Classic Nvidia control panel I see this isn't that bad because with hard gaming from what I remember you're only going to go up on average about 10-15 more degrees, and that is still in the green.

If push comes to shove I'll go by a little desktop fan and keep the side panel off and let it blow in. NOW that's what I call some real cooling, LOL.

Hey that's what I've typically done in the past, can't beat it, and you don't have to worry about more juice being drawn from the system, and more fans in the case just dying on you.

Well I added another case fan, but it's not helping. My top card is getting 80C gaming, and the bottom one around 75-78. Isn't 80c getting up there, to much?

There's no room for that on my board, I'm going out today and buying a little vornado, or something similar as a small desk fan to blow into the case.
