video card questions (SLI?)

Ok, so i have been reading reviews on video cards all day, i was going to get the x1600pro (asus pci-e) and it seemed fine, but i hear people in reviews complaining about it, whats bad about it?

also, if i get say, the 7600gs, it says SLI on the box, do i need a SLI motherboard even if i wont use SLI?

lastly, what if i just use the onboard graphics for a few weeks, then upgrade to a high end card?

the motherboard i'd get is the a8n-vm csm, with onboard geforce 6150 gpu, would that be ok for 3-4 weeks till i buy a high end card?

also, how would those onboard graphics be? do they support pixel and vertex shaders? what kind of video memory do they have?

I can't answer the first question but here's the rest:

1. No you don't need an SLI mobo

2. That would work fine as long as you don't freak out in a few weeks from lack of game playing.

3. The question should be, are you ok playing games on either really low settings or not at all for 3-4 weeks

4. Onboard pretty much sucks, it will let you play games but expect 800 x 600 or so and low settings. They take part of your ram and use that as its video memory.

most of the questions you ask can only be answered by yourself.

I'll add though, that the 6150 should be similar in performance to a 6200 turbocache.

and, to agree with purduery, you dont need an SLI mobo to run a single graphics card.

agreed with the previous posters...i'm pretty sure you can play games at 800x600 or 600x480 cause i am with a mx440 from like 3 years ago...and it was crap back then

Was a good card in its time. Read up on unlocking pipelines and you might be able to unlock it to a X800XT

1. no you do not need a sli motherboard for 1 video card
2. i'd take the x1600pro over 7600gs, theres nothing wrong with the x1600pro card its a good mid-range gpu
3. the onboard graphics question is up to you, can YOU deal with onboard graphics for 3-4 weeks? without playing many fps or faster paced games? my intel 855 onboard graphics plays cs 1.6 at low settings at 1280x768 decently... at like 50-60fps. only comparision i have
