Intel E8400
ATI 1950xt
4GB DDR2

Would like to play all @ 2560x1600 with high effects and detail
1. Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium wars
2. Possibly would play World in Conflict
3. Starcraft 2 when that comes out.

Currently I play Command and Conquer Generals when I get a chance. (weekly)

I have a slight ATI bias. I was thinking of picking up a 4870 or 4890 or 275GTX, or should I just wait for the new cards to come out? When will this be?

Thanks!

*EDIT: I have a Dell 3007WFP-HC

i want to get the dell 3008wfp, but waiting for a nice discount.
of course, i want mine to double as a console player as well for my PS3 / NES

for purely Pc gaming only, you may want the 3007wfp-hc, which can be had for 999.99 @ costco currently.

NES!!!!!!! Why do you want to connect an NES to that? Can't you just get an emulator?

blasphemy... the NES is a sacred device

emulators suck when you have a room full of people playing head to head NES games... and if we are watching the superbowl on my 65" TV (which would normally be hosting the NES games), I need a standby in the same room.

you have the 3007wfp-hc... and are looking to upgrade??
The only thing which could possibly beat the dells is the $2K NEC monitors.

Wow.. Confusing title and post... Lots of monitor recommendations in here.

If money is no issue: 2 x GTX 285 2GB = ~$800. You are GOING to need the 2GB of RAM at that resolution soon enough. Esp if you're going to pile on max AA/AF and max detail like you want. If you can wait a while, wait for 4890 2GB cards to come out. Sapphire came out with 4870 2GB Vapor-X a while ago, they just came out with the 4890 1GB Vapor-X so maybe the 2GB version is soon to follow. It's just that I'm concerned if you really absolutely need to run the games at 2560x1600, you're not going to have a very long video card life cycle if you settle for any of the 1GB/896MB cards out now.

But if you can really only do single card for ~$200 either get a 4890 1GB or a 4870 2GB, and just know that you're eventually going to run out of video memory with newer games at that resolution and with max detail.

Sorry about the title. I'm not sure what happened. Probably 14 hours of testing I just got done with.

I typically play games that are one or two years old. Example: C&C3 Tiberian is my "new" game I just purchased. I do this so I can get by with a lesser video card on a larger monitor.

Single HD 4890 or GTX 275/280 if you play mainly older games. For the latest and greatest games go 2x4890 or 2x275/280.

4850x2 is the better card (when crossfire works) but I heard bad things about the drivers for that card. Mabe someone else knows better.

The 3008 has the inputs you need, but it does suffer from input lag.

Any single NVIDIA GTX 2XX card, or single ATI 4870/4890 card would probably suffice.

You need 4870-X2 or GTX285. No single card will do for World-in-Conflict
- and at 19x12 - maxed details, 4xAA/16xAF - all the single GPU videocards drop into the mid-20s or lower for minimum framerates
