Hey all, I've got a Duron 800 system and I need a suggestion for a video card. I'm not looking to spend over $150. I can wait a while to purchase a card if you think it'll be better to wait a bit longer. Lemme know what you think!

I think radeon le's at $80 aren't a bad deal either, I don't know if you can get a kyro II yet anyway.

Kyro II doesn't come out until mid-April I think. I can wait a while cuz I'm gonna get a AGP 8 meg vid card from a friend to hold me over until I gets some mo' money. Any ideas of GeForce 2 MX vs. Radeon LE? Thanks.

Get the Radeon LE over the MX.

-> you can software enable HyperZ
-> you can 'overclock' it to a Radeon default
-> better picture quality
-> better performance (Radeon equivilent if clocked at same rates with HZ enabled)
-> all that and it's still cheaper.

I'm going to go against everyone, and say Radeon 64MB DDR. They are around $150, and provide outstanding performance NOW. It depends on what you want your video card to do for you. If all you want is 3D games, than wait for Kyro2. Radeon gives outstanding 2D, picture qulity, and DVD, albeit immature Win2k drivers. GF2 has slightly better 3D, and better Win2k drivers, but less DVD performance, picture quality, and 2D. Kyro2 the jury is still out on everything but 3D gaming.

Yay! I'm no longer a junior member! Okay anyway, well, sounds like there's about as much controversy in GeForce vs. Radeon as there is Chevy vs. Ford. I think I'll go with my friend's vid card for a month more or less until the Kyro II comes out and someone can give it a good run down. Thanks for all your guys' help.

jaydee, where did you see one of these cards for $150??? I hate ATI, but if I can grab a video card for that price, i'll shoot! I have a TNT Classic, so i could care less about a GF2!

Pricewatch lists plenty of 32mb DDR's for less than $150. But the 64mb DDR's are around $175.

I think jaydee was remembering the old $50 rebate?

Also, I'm gonna be running on a Samsung 753DF (I love PMing and coupon code usage). Will that make any difference or put any weight on any of the possibilities? Thanks.

For $150, the Kyro II is the best deal. I'm waiting for it to come out so I could give my Herc Prophet MX to younger bro, he has a Diamond Viper II in a K6-3 550 but he holds his own in Counterstrike. Maybe the MX would give him a better edge.

" Radeon gives outstanding 2D, picture qulity, and DVD, albeit immature Win2k drivers. "
Kyro also has awesome 2d, picture quality, and DVD, but IMO, better win2k drivers than the radeon.
Drivers need a little bit of work but there is supposed to be a new driver release this month(minor but annoying bug fixes here and there like white dots for some people in CS). I can't wait!

for $150 you've got the exact price of the industry standard GTS. or you could wait for the more KyroII reviews when it hits the streets. Radeon is only better than an MX and gives too much pain. there are far more GTS users, but it's the radeon owners always asking questions.

Either a GF2 GTS, Radeon DDR or a Kyro2 will be good choices.

i have the CardeEx GeForce 2 MX and it's awesome. definetly recomend this card.

Hey, I've got one too!

Unfortunately the GF2 MX is a little underpowered and little overpriced when compared to everyone elses budget offerings. I'm thinking of upgrading to either a GF2 GTS or a Kyro2.
