I bought a computer from CyberpowerPC.com instead of typically building my own computer. The computer specs are in my signature.
Basically, while playing any video game, ANY (Rome: TW, FEAR, Halo, HL2, CoD, etc.), the game will run smoothly, brilliantly even, but will freeze every 5-15 minutes. After the freeze one of four things will occur, depending on the game and the graphics settings. Either one, the screen will freeze with the sound continuing or looping; the screen will freeze and the game will crash to the desktop; the game will freeze, screeen turns black and then computer restarts, or I get the blue screen of death.
(The blue screen would give me an error that said:
***STOP: 00--bunch of numbers--00
***nv4_disp.dll - Address BFB08948 base at BF92400, Datestamp44ee274b
If those numbers after the STOP matter, just post it and I will find out what they are.)
I have done the following to try and remedy situation:
Changed video card drivers, from stock to Forceware 91.47, to 92.91 beta. I used a driver cleaning program after uninstalling the video card before installing the new drivers. I checked my RAM using Memtest86, ran it for hour upon hour, and no errors came up. I put in a new sound card, SB Audigy, to see if it was the onboard sound that was messing up. I uninstalled the onboard sound drivers, too.
All of these errors, and the nv4_disp.dll in the blue screen of death all make me believe this is a video card issue. CyberpowerPC's tech support has basically been non-existant thus far and is not helping. Is my videocard busted? Do I need to use forceware 8x.xx drivers? Do I need to reformat the HDD and resintall windows XP?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
