video card woes

Hey all,

On a cold start, the boot-up screen looks OK. However, by the time the login screen appears, the sceen has dotted lines everywhere. After a restart, even the boot screens are jacked up with different letters/characters, and small squares. This just started out of the blue. Last night everything was OK. This morning sucks. Any ideas?

hmm, it might not be the video card man. From what you said there my first guess would be the monitor

Well, now I am totally confused....I just restarted the PC to adjust the refresh rate of the monitor, and now almost everything is OK (without changing anything). The only thing messed up now is my pdf-file icons, and my OFFICE(word, excel, etc...) icons. Any new ideas?

You could try running 3DMark03 and watch for artifacts. If you are suddenly getting artifacts then you could try reloading the video driver.
