Hey guys

Im building a shuttle for my friend and its got a 240 watt psu. Im just wondering what kind of a video card I could run in there.

I know 6800 require a minimum 300 watt supply and x800s require 350? But anyone had any success with these cards despite their minimum requirements?

Actually most mid and some high end cards will do ok. Reason being that the overall system power requirements in those sff systems is somewhat lower than most standard desktops. Is this AGP or PCIe? If it is AGP take a look at the 6600gt for affordable mid-range graphics.

You can fit higher end video cards in there, but heat and cooling become an issue because it is difficult, if not impossible without heavy modification to get a VGA silencer or similar aftermarket GPU heatsink to fit.

I have a Shuttle SN25P chassis... Socket 939, with PCI express motherboard. I have a Radeon x800 Pro in mine with no problems.. See my sig for the rest of the hardware in the Shuttle.

Ive got an 1900XTX in my SN25P and its running with no problems (and not that much hotter than people with atx cases, i did have it overclocked, and it ran fine, except with Oblivion ).

My case does have a 360W power supply though, and for a big card like that youll probably want that sort of power.

I ran a x800xt AIW in my sn95G5 without a problem, power-wise.
I was very tempted to dremel a hole in the side to allow for better airflow off the GPU, though.

Although Shuttles have less wattage their power supplies are of a much higher quality when compared to others, so they can take a lot more. Check SFFTech.com. They discuss this issue all the time there...

I ran a vanilla 6800 on my SFF 220w power supply with no problems with a Athlon 64 3200+. According to this power consumption chart, the vanilla 6800 actually isn't that power hungry compared to similar cards.

Haha, I feel the same for the x800xl in my st20g5. When the fan starts spinning faster, so close to the side of the chassis, it sounds pretty asthmatic

From what I'd read about it, it changes the airflow in the whole case.
I really just wanted to put a nice silencer on the video card to quiet it down a bit (and improve cooling).

I still miss my box, though.
