Video Chat Quality - Android / iOS

While I love having switched to android, I do indeed miss the video quality I experienced with FaceTime when video chatting with my parents. We've tried both Skype and Google Hangouts, but alas, the video quality on both is less than desirable (not sure why). Google Hangouts looks washed out and is laggy (sometimes with a delay of over 6-7 seconds) and Skype is pixellated with weird audio echoes.

Any recommendations on an HD video chat app that works on both Android and iOS? My parents still have their iPhone 4's so it needs to be cross platform.

I've heard good things about tango but haven't used it myself. Believe it's cross platform and is free.

This is probably the one thing that I am missing about leaving iPhones. I haven't found a satisfactory alternative to Facetime on Android.

Tango works decently. My Wife uses it on her iPhone with her parents who use a 7" Samsung tablet. The audio is very rarely off, and the video is ok. But certainly not as good as Facetime, which is the best out there as far as I know.

Facetime is a direct connection. Google Hangout and Skype are not direct. There is a server in between.

I use tango almost every day, the video could be better but it works very good and is cross platform

Haven't they changed that due to getting sued by someone?
