Video Conversion Program (Freeware)

I guess its hot in a freeware sense since I haven't found anything else that can do all that it does.

*** Warning *** - I have done some basic security checks on it (see below) but I am no expert. If you are hesitant, wait for some feedback.

I am not trying to viral market this thing and have no idea who the developers are. I just found it while working on some video conversions of my own and thought I would share it here since I think this is the most widely read forum on AT, and it is freeware.

I had posted it in the Video and Software Forums looking for opinions but never really got any replies. I guess its not very widely used. Eventually I just broke down and installed it to test it for myself.

So far, I'm impressed. It smoked through the 3 vids I've thrown at it.

It seems to have just about every video codec ever made and can convert between them all. It even has default settings for converting video to PSP, iPod and a couple of others.

I did a post installation check with AVG, SpyBot, AdAware, MS Defender and SpySweeper and nothing showed so it seems to be 'clean'. It did try to access the 'trusted zone' but I took care of that with ZA.

I hope that folks with more knowledge than me (everyone?) will take a look at it and see if its worthy.

It would be especially appreciated if someone could take a more in-depth look to ensure its free of spyware/malware. I would feel pretty bad if a bunch of AT'ers loaded this up only to find out that its full of trash.

Any comments on the program?

Hmmm, pretty sure I mentioned that in the OP. Let's see.... yup its there. Congratulations on your surfing skills.

No, didn't need to... but if you read the post(s), you will see that I originally posted it in the Video and Software forums looking for the opinions and alternatives prior to installation.

Those posts were then edited after I did the installation and tested the program. So yeah, rather than leave them hanging, I edited them. A HD post for freeware is not exactly new (Alcohol 52%) and the reason for that is in the OP too - see if you can spot it.

Besides, are you worried that the server will run out of room for your posts about porn?

I've been trying to find something to convert AVI and FLV files for use on my Ipod. Super will convert the files to the correct format but the files end up with a bunch of "skips" in them.

I've tried a bunch of other freeware to no avail. The 30 day trial version of Pinnacle Studio 10 does a great job of converting AVI files for use on the Ipod with the added bonus of being able to edit them. I'm a long time Pinnacle Studion user so I'll be upgrading from version 9 once my version 10 trial runs out. I just need to wait for another sale, I'm not willing to pay more than $20 after MIR for Pinnacle Studion 10.5 TE.

I also am trying Moviepod to convert FLV files for Ipod use. It seems to work fine so I'll probably pony up the whopping $10 after the trial runs out.

I'll also give "Any Video Converter" a look.

John P. - Not sure if it will meet your needs but another program that was mentioned:

I was hoping that there was one or two common freeware apps that were, by general agreement, thought to be the best multi-purpose converters. I guess they just aren't that developed yet. Looks like a trial and error process for finding the one that best suits your needs.

If it works as well as advertised, then that's a pretty hot program. I hope in the future we can store all of our media digitally and then have a simple app like this to convert to whatever we want near-instantly. I'd also like Google to come out with an OS Thx op!

Looks interesting but I can't download it. I've done as it asked, enabled javascript, cleared MSIE cache, but my office pc uses a proxy, and it just keeps looping back to the same page.

I guess I'll have to try this from home.

Super is legit. It's been fully tested and I use it all the time. It's available on my freeware site - http://www.missingbytes.net in the video section if you're having trouble downloading it from it's own page.

I dont get this. The free verison does it all but they are selling verison that don only 1 type conversion for $30. It doesn't really make since unless the freeware has some limitations it not saying. I'm going to try super tonight and see if it works.

I'm still using VirtualDub Sometimes I'll use RealAnime or MeGUI, though. Really good results with mkv or mp4 container, x264 video, and ogg or HE-AAC for audio.

SUPER does appear to be a very powerful program. If you just grab .FLV files from Youtube (Naruto for the Nephew) you might want to check out Batch FLV Converter.

After installing so many video programs, I find my .MPG files won't play in WMP anymore, but will play in Crystal Player. I guess it's time to uninstall some.

I have been using Super for a long time and gotten most of my friends using it to, with no problems
about downloading it from main page
go to the bottom and click on Start Downloading SUPER ©
then on that page at the top download and use
on the 3rd page, you can scroll to the bottom and download it
