So can some one explain to me why everybody goes after the video game industry when there is a shooting but nobody blames the gun manufacturers. I realize that people kill people but there is certainly a bias here.

Someone needs to go postal at the Smith and Wesson factory. I'm all for people owning guns but if you make it so easy for people to get guns, things like today's rampage will continue.

Before it was music, then movies, now its video games. People need something to blame so they can feel good about themselves.

The videogame people need something like the NRA. The videogame industry should start buying up politicians, money talks. We need to add something to the Constitution, like, the right to play violent videogames of our own choosing.

Putting more restrictions on guns won't make it any harder for criminals to get them. They don't get them through legal channels - it just makes it harder for normal people to enjoy a hobby or to defend themselves.

I don't know why everybody goes after either. what the hell would be your argument for going after a gun manufacturer? they create a tool, simple as that.

I've played video games for almost my entire life. I've also been around guns for close to 20 years. I own sveral myself. I've never gone on a rampage, I've never shot anyone, hell, I've never even tried to fight anyone.

normal people aren't going to cause a problem. it's the mentally unstable that will cause a problem.

Obviously a well thought out plan on your part. Almost as good as the guy that tried to rob a gun store. During business hours. While there was a cop car parked out front.

Actually, there was an article not too long ago that stated the video game industry was now donating to campaigns and hiring lobbyists.

i doubt they have the guns and ammo lying around the factory (other than the section where they do the test firing)

Yes, but at least they can access the ones from the test range. It wouldn't be a "Gun Free Zone," aka a "Target Rich Environment."

Its nothing to do with video games, movies, or having guns readily available.

Where I live I know of plenty of families that have guns in the house.
Most have gun cabinets in the living room with 3 or 4 rifles.
Others have handguns, some take their children out shooting and hunting.

Or go back to the 50's , 60's.
Look at the families that owned guns then.
Where are the mass shootings in those years by family members ?

I place the blame for the problems seen now on the families and parents.
The children that have grown up as latch key kids.
The ones that didn't have a father growing up .
If you look at the family life of the people that did the shootings there is almost always something wrong .

Guns aren't the problem, its family values that needs a hard look.

If you piss off hardcore video game enthusiasts, they'll write nasty things in their blogs.

If you piss off hardcore gun enthusiasts, they might start loading their....oh wait, never mind. Their guns are always loaded.

Modelworks is just about exactly correct. Behind every "4 dead at a campus after gunman kills 3 and himself" is a very damaged individual. Our society by and large places importance on the self and our self-satisfaction. I think this translates generally into families that plan to have a single child, and don't put much effort into being a loving parent. Also there's this trend that the best way to treat your child is to be their friend rather than their authority figure, afterall, a lot of parents today are so insecure that they'll do almost anything to try to placate their kids, or even avoid being in their life to a great degree so as to not have to deal with their child's problems. Kids with no guidance are what's so dangerous.

The bottom line is that, in all honesty, I think the price that we pay as a society for accidental shootings and desperate acts of murder using guns are worth the benefit that we have as a society that allows gun ownership. That's a tough sentiment to defend, but it's one that I think is generally very true.

Well possessing a gun does not psychologically condition one to be a killer. While assuming the role of killer under gaming circumstances, can condition one mentally to kill people.
You enjoy the "safe" killing so much that you begin to imagine real life killing as equally gratifying.
A game's influence depends to a degree how much you immerse yourself in the game and how strong your morals are in the first place.

i don't believe that. there has to be an underlying condition to cause that. like i said, i've been playing game forever, lots of violent ones too. I have never had the desire to go out and kill people because it's "fun" or because the game makes me want to do it.

When there is a shooting people do go after the gun manufacturer. So both the video game and firearm industry get blamed for violence.

Which is why firearm manufacturers should be given immunity from any BS blame that comes from shootings.

Not everybody goes after the video game industry. Only Jackass Thompson and friends do. Friends as in ignorant parents looking for something besides themselves to blame.
