All right, so here is my perplexing planetary dilemma.

Last night I was closing my computer down and the video started going weird. As in, screen went black. Would not come back. Rebooted and I had :::::::::::::::::::::::: and !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all over my screen, would not boot into windows unless in safe mode. Tried to reinstall drivers, no dice. Got tired went to bed. Left computer off all night. This morning, before work got up and pushed the button, everything is normal. Went right in, installed drivers and it is working fine. Sooooo? Any ideas on what to even check? Power supply? Motherboard?

Or is it possible that the computer had been left on for so long ( I put it in standby) that it just needed to be left off for a long time to clear memory ect?

This is a sapphire 4830 card. With a gigabyte motherboard (don?t remember which) e 8400, 4 gigs ram, and numerous harddrives. I?m looking for ideas, because I really don?t like it when my computer does things like this!

Thanks!

I was thinking this may be a possibility.

But there were no dustbunnies. and I'm not sure what the temp of the card was. I wonder if there is a way to turn the fan up on the card.

It was a bit warm in the house, but i've never had an issue with temperature before.

I'm bumping my own thread in hopes of someone with more knowledge/experience may see it and speak up.

I had the issue happen again, when I woke my computer up. I shut it down, and then left it unplugged for about 5 min. then turned it back on and it worked perfectly. I've been monitoring the temps like crazy and heat isn't the issue.

My question is, could this very wel be a powersupply issue? While my power supply is rated to handle the cards, could the voltage be wigging out enough to cause such a problem? Anyway to test this theory? or just go pick up a new one.

Thanks!
