Back in WW2 our GIs used "Japs" just like they did "Krauts."

Doesn't have at all the same meaning anymore, despite what people still want to think.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the actual combat lingo designating the Japanese (in the U.S. armed forces) during WWII was "Nips".

I know numerous Japanese people who take offense at the term Jap. If it's not offensive to you because you aren't japanese, well that is some extremely stupid logic.

We all know and love the accuracy of Wikipedia, but the entry is enough to give you a semi-decent idea of the offensiveness of the term.

yes, the term jap has a history of negative/derogatory connotations. best to not use the term but there are many times i've seen the term used modern day with no negative intent.
