Actually I lost by proxy, I think. I was in grad school at the time and rented the car as an employee of the university. The university thought the claim was BS and said so. The rental car company called me for a few months and I kept referring them back to the proper office at the university. The university had a claim process that the rental car company didn't want to follow. I finally explained it to them real slow - "I don't have any money. If your goal is to get money, you have to talk to the university." They stopped calling me so I guess they finally did things the university's way so they could get some money or they gave up. I left grad school shorty after the hail storm and debt collectors have never kicked down my door so I assume things were resolved. The hail was about golf ball sized and left little dings all over the car. The funny thing is that I turned in that rental car and they gave me another one a couple days later with no problems.

Hail really isn't -that- bad on the scale of natures wrath. Broken windows, holes in the roof, and it'll stop traffic pretty quick! It's almost always a very short burst like in the original video, it's not sustained for very long. Being caught in the open can make for a scare...

Hail really isn't -that- bad on the scale of natures wrath. Broken windows, holes in the roof, and it'll stop traffic pretty quick! It's almost always a very short burst like in the original video, it's not sustained for very long. Being caught in the open can make for a scare...

Being caught in the open in that type of hail could easily result in death.

All those videos sure make my hailstorm clip from summer 2008 even worse. It's like pea size hail. And taken with my only camera, so it's 320x240 30 second and the audio is messed up.

Did you see the size of the hail stone that went through the roof? If that hit you in the head you would be dead.

Dents in cars would be the least of it. That kind of hail can wreck serious damage to your house. ...come to think of it, I've only ever seen very large hail (not even that large) when a tornado was in the area. Kinda foolish to not be moving to safer refuge.

2 years ago my house got hit like this. We have a pond in our backyard. Looked like that pool. The big stuff fell for a couple of mins. Then smaller hail dropped for 12 mins straight. We got a new roof and siding.

It's possible if you were out in the open for a significant amount of time. Unlikely to happen though, even in 95 when Mayfest got hit there were a lot of people out in the open and tons were hurt but no one died from the hail.

The worst of that storm Sunday missed us by just about 2 miles or so, we just got a few dime sized hail stones at our house.

I live about 25 miles NW of Oklahoma City. The hail storm started here and developed into the huge hail stones that OKC received. Here at my house, the hail was about the size of a quarter. My yard at 3pm in the afternoon looked like it had just snowed. Literally. Luckly all vehicles were nice and safe inside. I have several friends who were spending the Sunday shopping at Penn Square Mall and their vehicles were completely totalled. We have an office about 2 miles from Penn Square. We had several Lexus RX's and a Cadillac sitting in the park lot. Completely totalled as well. The Lexus's had no windows left in them.

He may have been technically correct but in practical terms tornadoes are accompanied by precip just as often as they are not.


And living in OK for very long you realize that a meteorologists word isn't really worth much. Not that they're bad at their jobs but our weather is so unpredictable there's nothing they can do

It not only destroyed every car on the lot to the point they were not sellable even as salvage, but it also blew holes in the metal roof of the dealership and caused injuries to employees INSIDE.
