My system:
Intel 1.6A@155, 1:1 default voltage
Asus P4B533 Default voltage
Samsung 512ddr pc2700 set at Auto
Gainward Geforce 4 4200 64mb
Sounblaster Live! Value (4th slot)
Macronix 10/100 (6th slot, bottom)

Initially when i set up my computer i boosted up the FSB and set the fsb/ram to 1:1 but I forgot to set the agp/pci to 66/33, instead I left it on auto. There were no initial problems though. Later on I changed it, still no problems. But when I started playing some 3d games like ArmyOps or Quake3 I'd get these random glitches, the screen would go multicolored and freeze and the system would restart eventually. Not only did I get this in games but once or twice when I was messing with a java news updater and another time when I was checking my email with outlook.

I'm hard pressed to figure out the problem here because I'm skeptical that it's the actual video card overheating, because it'll crash regardless that I opened up my case and propped the front fan right next to it to insure it would be kept cool.

On my last computer I got bsod errors pertaining to nv4 something yada yada and it seems to be happening again. What I'm wondering is, could it be a conflict with IRQs, could it be heating, could it be the Soundblaster Live! or the Macronix ethernet card which I carried over from my last computer that could be somehow conflicting with the video operation? I'm just not sure anymore, I tried upping the voltage a while back but not even that seemed to help at all. I also set the memory to 2.5cl, keeping the other two options on 2. I just recently changed it to 2.5 3 3 7 to no avail.

I reset my bios to default everything running at the standard 1600mhz but no such luck, still crashed in game. Maybe its the geforce overheating then? I still can't be sure because it will do it whether or not my case is open.

I bought a new computer so i could avoid these video problems but they just keep on turning up, I need a whiz on this one.

What you need to do is get to where you can reproduce the error everytime no matter what.
When you can do this.. remove your sound card, network card.. anything but video and try to reproduce issue again.

If you can then you know its nothing to do with all those devices you removed.
Start with that.

Its definitely a Video Ram issue.
(the multicolored freeze screens point to that)

Their are a few things you can try.

First, adjust your Display Properties.

Right-click on the desktop and select Properties\Settings\Advanced.
Select the GeForce tab.
Select Additional Properties.
There will be a tab labeled Direct 3D Settings.
You will see PCI Texture Memory Size. Lower this setting.
The default is 60 or so.
Set it no higher than 32. The lower you go, the safer it is.
You will experience very minimal to no performance decrease with this
setting, but stability will increase enormously.

Setting the ram to 2.5cl is good, but 2.6 or 2.7 is better.
That way it will never go lower that 2.5.

What size Power Supply are you using?

I have a 350W power supply, and I just rearranged the settings I'm about to test it out, maybe I should also put the Ram into a different slot, I'll get back on this.

Update: Ok this is horrible it still crashed, I switched my ram from slot 2 to slot 1, doubt that's the problem though. It happened after an extended time of gameplay, so could it just be the board overheated? Im not sure.
