Video reviwing software

Can anyone recomend any software (preferably free) that is good for reviewing video at slow speeds, also frame by frame and backwards and forwards. I want to use it for picking images of wildlife from video footage. So far I have tried Panasonics HD writer AE3.0 that came with my video camera, VCL media player, and windows media player but none of these are particularly good for what I am doing.

Daum Pot Player does slo mo and frame by frame(if I recall correctly). Also will capture stills.

Thanks for the suggestion, have downloaded it and had a go. I looks quite good except I cannot seem to turn the interlacing off which is causing blur between to consecutive images, so is no good for image capture. I am sure it will work but I cannot figure the settings to get it to go from frame to frame as recorded.
I have been trying VCL media player again and can get it to go slow and frame by frame but it will not go backwards, it seems this is because of the way video is encoded
