Videocard Problems - Constantly crashing.

My Computer:

ASUS K7V 750Mhz Athlon
ASUS V6800 GeForce 256 - using the latest Nvidia Reference Drivers.
392mb RAM
Windows XP
Soundblaster Live

My problem? No matter what game I am playing be it Wolfenstein, Grand Prix 3, Operation Flashpoint, Deus Ex my computer will crash or reboot at random intervals. Sometimes I can play for hours without a problem and other times it will crash after a few minutes. Sometimes I crash to the desktop and other times my computer will just reboot. I have tried a variey of reference drivers with the same problem. I tried going back to the very very old ASUS drivers, which seem more stable, that came with my video card but then Wolfenstein just won't run at all because it can't find any OpenGL support.

Does anyone have and suggestions.

Also in the event that I need to get a new videocard what is currently the best GeForce 2 card on the market?

First, was there anything that seemed to trigger, like an occurence when they first started happening, these problems (i.e. new operating system, new component in computer, new drivers, etc...)?

I have the same problems with my Asus V7700.... there were some coolin inefficiencies with Asus' line of first generation GF2 cards.

These folks confirmed that the card was causing a reboot or lockup once reaching a certain temp.

Still unsure of a solution, I havent tried to RMA or anything like that.

Well it started when I first changed my video card drivers from the default ASUS ones. So I naturally changed them back. However when I installed XP it automatically updated the drivers to the default XP video driver. Then my problems really started because if I go back to the old ASUS drivers some games just don't work. The ASUS drivers are so incredibly old (1.5 years) new games don't run. And the new drivers cause my computer to crash or reboot at random intervals. And no it isn't a certain event in the game. It is completely random across many different games.

I just updated my VIA 4in1 drivers but still no success.... it my video card the likely source of the problem?

Try opening the case and blow a desk fan in it. If this helps it would narrow it down to heat issues. The new drivers might cause the video card to work harder thus causing more heat. Might just need another case fan to keep it cool. Hope this helps
