Assuming the 3060 8 GB is just a BOM reduction and the 3060 Ti GDDR6X is just getting rid of excess 19 gbps GDDR6X.

Videocardz clams that these will launch at the end of October.

new cards circling around the 3060 performance level seems to me like a counter move to the stronger Intel Arc cards that will (might) come soon.

The GDDR6X VRAM uses more power but much faster too! I could not wait and pull the trigger on a brand new NVideo RTX 3060 TI Founders Edition card.

Just purchased the 12/2020 NVidia RTX 3060 TI brand new from BB with 8GB GDDR6, not the “X”. I think the 4000 series will use the same “X” so not wasted at all?

Anyways, I am happy to be able to buy it “new”, from an authorized seller and at “MSRP” too!

- Might want to double check that the brand isn't NVideo though...

Videocardz says support for the two was added in the latest drivers plus the 3070 Ti GA102.

Here's the 3070 Ti GA102.

And the 3060 8 GB.

All these card manufacturers launch the second most powerful card and a middle of the road card at the start and fill in the spaces down the road like each three months another two cards gets released. Sucks!

It's all for good reasons, as those later releases tend to be with for chip bins that are smaller. For example, the 4090 Ti will be made with chips that are near perfect, while there are many chips with a defect, which go into the cheap 4090

If nvidia took this opportunity to shuffle their prices down, I'd be down with that.

If they just insert them without any shuffling, then its hopefully just a "SE" type launch where they clear out some stock and they go silently into the night.

I think that was the intent. Instead of cutting prices they made a cheaper SKU.

I would say the official price of the 3060 8 GB would be $299, but that's what the 3050 is going for right now.

Right. Well, my interest in the 3060 8GB, such that it is, starts @ $250. If they priced the GRDD6X 3060ti at $399 and move the 3060Ti to $350 that would be great.

3050 @ $219, 3060 8GB @$249, 3060 12GB @ $299, 3060ti @$349, 3060ti GDDR6X @$399 would seem so sane to me compared to where are at but what do I know. Not much, I guess.

And many consumers would probably walk right up that SKU ladder to the 3060Ti GDDR6X.

My interest would be in the 3060 Ti GDDR6X at $300 new. Since that's not happening I have no interest whatsoever in Nvidia cards.

I dunno WTF is going on over at NV right now, here is an update on this story:

I'm assuming there is going to be something to differentiate the cards from one another. 3060ti isn't bandwidth starved, so aside from some additional heat and power and the odd game that loves bandwidth, there likely won't be much of a difference in actual performance, but damn NV better add some sort of naming indicator showing this is a different card.

As someone on those boards pointed out, NV "I launches" 4080 12gb due to confusing naming then plans to spec out the 3060ti differently and keep naming the same? Doesn't sound right.

So if the TBP doesn't change, but the memory uses more power, but the GPU core isn't memory limited to start with... couldn't that be a net performance regression?

Or a net change of basically zero, which is what the naming configuration seems to indicate.

-Yeah I don't understand how TBP can stay the same with GDDR6X not underclocked and undervolted to standard 6 spec. The only other place to take power from is the core, with a lower voltage/capped boost or something.

They can call it the 3060titi.

Nvidia has become a boob company anyway.

Adding the 3060 8GB HUB review here. This GPU is a bad joke at current pricing

I hope it sells crazy well. The unwashed masses and brand loyal buyers deserve to be ripped off by Nvidia at every opportunity. Millions of Fry's shouting shut up and take my money like the rubes they are. The best part is they don't even know they are getting ripped off. There will be thousands of youtube comments saying how much they love their 3060 8GB. Ignorance truly is bliss.

Dumb people can't help that they're dumb and don't deserve to be ripped off because of it.

Besides, it's also bad for us consumers when companies don't compete on who provides the best value, but who can scam the best.
