Sounds like he doesn't have his hands on a card perhaps and tomorrow is not going to be a hard launch (maybe).

Its not really being set up as a hard launch. We have a marketing presentation promised so its looking more and more like an announcement about an announcement (aka soft launch). Could be wrong though, we could have massive volume tomorrow but we haven't had the leaks of price and such from online stores accidentally listing it early and that pretty much always happens on hard launches.

Hardly rich. I've made a few good decisions along the way that make it so I don't live pay check to pay check but if I had to worry about where the money was coming from so I could afford a new graphics card I would make another good decision and not be in this hobby altogether. :hmm:

i wouldn't call it a paper launch. tomorrow is a press reveal event. cards are well on their way from AIB partners to retail stores. it takes 2 weeks to give reviewers enough time to prepare reviews and their comments. in the meanwhile the cards should be stocked at retail stores ready for launch day. since Hawaii is on TSMC 28nm you can expect widespread availability on launch day with significant volume.

I thought tomorrow is a performance preview and a chance to talk up HSA and other features with availability mid-late October. Win 8.1 update is Oct 22 and Battlefield 4 is Oct 29, I'd expect the new series to hit retail just ahead of Win 8.1.

spending a G note on a videocard is tiny compared to all my bills and my mortgage at the end of the month.

And when you compare it to other hobbies its a lot cheaper than you think.

Nothing wrong with dropping a bit of cash once every 2 years or so on a new card when they come out,many people like myself could buy the new 290x when it debutes,put $30 away a month and in exactly 2 years i will have $720 for a high end after market cooled gpu.

$50 a month and every two years you could drop $1,200 on cards,thats enough for mid -high range sli or crossfire with cash left over.

or you can just buy and sell frequently and only ever spend a couple hundred here and there and always have the best. I bought my Titan near launch for $999 + tax at my local Microcenter. I just sold it about a month ago for $850. I basically rented it for something like $1 a day. Not bad.

One of the reasons why I don't have any system specs in my sig is because people make false judgments all the time based on what hardware one is using. I've been called just about every techie name in the book, since I took out my system specs a couple years ago, nothing. Coincidence ? I think not.

Well, at least we should be able to count on AT for providing an article on the underlying technology. I'm actually more interested in reading what makes the 290X tick more than anything else...

Yes that's where the limit shows because all the calculations that were done on the other GPU/GPUs has to be sent to the primary, the textures themselves are not sent, it would never keep up period and is not needed just like the CPU does not send Textures into Vram every frame because it does not need to, only instructions of what textures to use and where are sent..
