I'll have to sharpen my trusty pencil to see which sites will be labeled as biased by this group!

And probably get a fresh eraser too, since there will be plenty of flip-flopping...

The guide itself reads fine imho. The benchmarks need to be verified but seem okay. Let's hope we won't see any outlets copying these exact numbers.

Well this is interesting. Will be very fun finally proving which sites are shill sites by following the exact guidelines nvidia wants them to follow.

Guidelines are sensible. Which do you think is unreasonable?

The benchmarks obviously are going to paint the GTX 1060 in a best case scenario. As it stands, the AMD drivers are rather old.

Speaking of which, I have never seen the word "shill" thrown more often around the Internet than it is thrown in this particular subforum. It's just crazy. And to think Anandtech was one of the best tech hardware review sites...

Because nVidia has a history of hiring shills in forums?

What an odd thing to point out in a reviewers guide.
A Note on Testing:
As most of our tech marketing team is composed of former members of the media, we understand the benefits of testing on an open test bench; it saves time and makes life easier, as you're frequently swapping components in and out of your testbed PC.

Reviewer guides have been going out with cards for a great while now. This isn't anything new. It's to be expected they ask you to bench in the manner most favorable to you, its up to the reviewer to pick the method they think is best and defend that choice.

Exactly. So I dont know how this would or wouldnt point out "shill sites".

Not really, it's just a fancy way of saying, "we understand why you want to do things a certain way, but here's why we don't recommend it."

Their recommendation on it is actually very sound.

I cannot see the entire list of games they suggest but it doesn't look too bad honestly.

Okay, why not say that instead? Rather than subtly reminding the media that nVidia has hired a bunch of them for their marketing team.

edit: To be clear, I have no issue with their suggestion to test using a closed system. Just that the wording above was odd and may introduce bias.

A reviewers guide is meant to introduce bias. It does give usefull information but the purpose is set in stone and thats what you pay your marketing team for. Bias is not the word used but what it is.
The way nv does it is extremelt subtle and professional so the reviewers hardly notice it. Actually the do the same as vs consumers.
They try to make a personal attachment. Saying we are like you. We know you. We understand you. We are at like. I like you you like me.
The rest comes by itself.
When there is a personal allignment the socalled fact will better fit.
Its very similar to earlier reviewers guides.
The reviwer guides from nv is in that way far superior to amd and shows the business culture of the companies. And ofcource the professional difference.

Well if you copy/paste the glowing sentiments and follow the game guide to a T then yeah I think that makes you a de facto "shill".

They also say its fine to bench in an open setup (more Founder's Edition temp throttling?). Pretty sure if they were actually being honest they would say "no actual gamer uses an open bench setup, so please test in a way that gamers will use the card" or something like that.

Not saying AMD doesn't do it either, I just have never seen one of their "reviewers guides" before.

I assume this is why AT and a few other sites called their cooked release day article a "preview"? Because I'm hoping they're able to come back later with a thorough test...

On phone atm and cbf checking myself, but is there some sort of expirey to these things?

Amd does the same.

Ofcource the reason for the open testbed is because the 1060 and boost clock. That's quite evident and the reviewers will know that part.

What the reviewers don't know is the way they are kind of beeing moved psychologically. That part sets amd and nv guides apart.

Enjoy. Always an interesting read. And notice the reviewers seldom get any time to do the job. Pretty awfully working conditions. Remember that.

Only reason nVidia would ask reviewers to use an open test bed is to prevent throttling and makes the temps look better than they otherwise would be.

the reference 480 also runs pretty hot,
I don't think the 1060 will throttle to easily.

The 1060 480 whatever new card is reviewed is compared to older cards that readers have. You want that to look good for the new card. An open testbed does that.

Now i dont think its that important vs the purpose of relationbuilding that is happening with that remark.

On a quick skim I didn't see anything that looked unusual/improper. The purpose is of course to put the 1060 in the best light, but there's nothing wrong with that from Nvidia's perspective. It's up to each review site to do what's needed to present a fair and accurate picture of pros/cons.
